I’m excited to share that I'll be joining the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers University-New Brunswick as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in January 2026! Thrilled to launch my independent lab and be part of this vibrant research community 💖 #newPI
Hi All.
First, thank you SO much for your support. Words cannot express our gratitude.
Sadly, I had to delete my Venmo post bc of attempts to steal my account. But we’ve received a lot of help and in time will be ok.
Please consider donating to TMA below. They’ve helped us and other families.
Today CLS objected to the proposed politicization of staff positions at US Science Agencies, particularly program managers whose expertise is critical to a strong and vibrant innovation ecosystem.

🚨 URGENT RESPONSE CALL 🚨
Trump’s Fool’s Gold Science EO is a dangerous sham.
It gives his appointees the power to dismiss entire bodies of research and punish researchers who fail to fall in line with his agenda.
We’ve launched an open letter.

“Harvard is prohibited from having any aliens on F- or J-nonimmigrant status”
To be clear, this includes international postdocs as well as international students. (I was at Harvard on a J-1 visa for two years.)
Thinking of all my fabulous colleagues over in Cambridge, Mass.
🚨 A new rule would let career scientists like NSF/NIH program officers be replaced by political appointees
Already 14,000+ public comments, deadline is Friday
📣 Comments can be short. Courts consider them—and scientists with NSF/NIH experience are especially impactful
Speak up! shorturl.at/WKuBj
You have three days, starting today, to leave a public comment with the FDA about, say, why COVID-19 boosters should remain available to everyone and also free. "Individual consumer" is the category you most likely want (unless you are one of the other categories; if so, choose that).
🚨 This MUST READ essay and call to action spells out, in very clear terms, how the Trump administration could get away with slashing the NIH budget. NIH scientists and Dems in congress need to read and understand it. This is where we win or lose the battle to save the NIH and US science. 🧪 🧠 🧬 🔊
ACTION ITEM-----ACTION ITEM
Implementation of Schedule F
This is what a lot of us have been worried about.
This allows for many civil service positions to replaced with political appointees. This could include NIH institute directors and even POs.
BUT THERE IS A COMMENT PERIOD...

This is a pitch-perfect version of the argument we all need to be making. Thank you so much, Stirling and Jack.
The Senate Committee on Appropriations is holding a hearing on Biomedical Research: Keeping America’s Edge in Innovation on April 30 at 10:30am ET, chaired by Senator Susan Collins 🧪

We've been tracking unlawful NIH grant terminations for 3 weeks. Spread the word👇!
Fellow PIs: what can you do upon termination?
✅ Email PO + document questions
✅ Submit FOIA
✅ Advocate to your OCG/OSP for appeal + litigation
✅ Consider outside litigation
✅ Donate to state AGs + legal orgs

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.
Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.
Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.
TODAY is the showdown.

openRxiv has arrived!
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of openRxiv as an independent, researcher-led nonprofit to oversee bioRxiv and medRxiv, the world’s leading preprint servers for life and health sciences.

The Smallest State also #standupforscience in this cold gusty day. Science has been always supported from both parties until now, bc it is for all of us.
Good discussion by @oiyanpoon.bsky.social & @janellewong.bsky.social about the racist ploy to use Asian American students & families to threaten colleges over admissions, diversity, & who is framed as ‘deserving’ of attending highly rejective institutions. www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
Your Action Is Needed!
Congress needs to hear from scientists. Call your representatives to oppose funding freezes and restrictions on research. Find contact info at govtrack.us and make your voice heard today! #SciencePolicy

🚨PIs of Training Grants and Programs, ESPECIALLY training grants that support students from historically excluded groups (T32s and T34s, IMSD, MARC, PREP, MOSAIC, etc.)🚨
We need to push back on the loss of information and the disappearance of websites about these resources.
And the funding announcement for diversity supplements now has been updated to expire today. Supplements are so important to the careers of junior scientists. This is crushing for post docs and early career faculty

If you’re a federal govt employee targeted for leave or termination on the basis of your DEI work, please file an EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) complaint & retain legal counsel.
I’m a former NIH PI. Happy to refer you to a law firm that has successfully sued the govt many times!

people culturing primary neurons, where do you get your FBS?
I usually do not post things on here, but I wanna thank all of my reviewers. They are all very thoughtful! Even reviewer #2 (!!!). It will not be easy to address their questions, but their points are very insightful and important. I really appreciate all the comments and time they spent on this.
I’m so excited to organize the #Lysosomes Subgroup at @ASCBiology 2024 meeting on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3:15pm, Room 33B.
Lysosomes naturally lend themselves to puns. So…Don’t be 𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒄. Join us for fresh, 𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈-edge talks and puntastic times. It will 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 if you miss it.
I am going to talk about this work at #cellbio2024 just for 7 mins (!) on Monday and poster session on Tuesday. Please stop by, as we’d like to learn more and think about this intriguing biology, especially with all the experts in the fields.
My first preprint is published!
Our central question is: how do cells handle both gradual acidification and Rab regualation during endosmal maturation?
We tried our best to dissect basic biologies behinds human diseases with neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative pathologies.
