Soft serve ice cream, waffle cone wafer chips and caramel and hot chocolate for dipping
Ice cream nachos at a Mariners game this spring were delightful.
Jeff Bridges yelling "Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave, with a box of scraps!"
Me any time an ugly bridge goes up, comparing it to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Menu item for "Italian nachos" made up of wonton, Alfredo, Italian sausage, chicken, herbed tomatoes, jalapeños, olive, parmesan, mozzarella
Look. I'm not saying no. But I'm not going to be proud of myself for saying yes.
I've got this random memory of taking them to a Target in November 2020 to pick out a birthday present for their dad and they hadn't been to a store in months. They were walking around that place like it was Disneyland. That sucked!
They saw game 1 and were like "we're gonna need this tonight"
It took about four years post-shutdown (in my part of Washington schools were closed until around February-April 2021) to feel like my developmentally delayed kid had caught back up academically. The schools did no remediation, it was on to first grade, sink or swim.
This is not even getting into the fact that I had a kid with a developmental delay who wasn't getting any of the services they needed.
Speech therapy and occupational therapy for five year olds does not work well over Zoom. Neither does in person speech therapy when you have to wear masks.
I honestly think I would have been... not great, but okay, on my own. But my five year-olds were absolutely miserable and there was nothing I could do to comfort them. They were kids who needed peer socialization at that age and I couldn't provide it for them. That sucked, a lot.
oh sure but when i run across the field naked it's "illegal"
Yeah a ton of people demand things like "no one in the office should ever talk about their children because I find the concept of childhood triggering" and I'm sorry but as a fellow mentally ill person, not every demand for accomodation is reasonable. Sometimes you gotta work through your own shit.
I don't have severe sensory issues but I absolutely did find it harder to breathe while wearing a mask and moving around, no matter how much people told me it wasn't harder, everyone was just lying and/or being dramatic.
I met an Iraqi general who had given up tea because it was too much sugar. The idea of drinking it without sugar was bonkers.
I remember having tea with an Afghan National Army soldier who looked at me like I was fucking insane when I said half an inch of sugar at the bottom of my cup was enough for me, thanks.
I think about this every time I make myself a cup of tea.
Looking forward to the ominous tweets of "Omar comin"
This is specifically a problem with the military's patient portal. The software will not allow for expanded access even if the kid signs off on it.
Babe what's wrong, you haven't taken a bite of your gray lump.
From talking to other parents, even if the kid signs off on it, you can't get access through the portal anymore. It's basically a technical problem, and the military healthcare system is completely uninterested in trying to fix it 😭
No, you have to go in person to request a hard copy of the record.
No, you can't access any of their routine physicals or anything like that at all. No height/weight information, no lab results, nada.
That only allows you access to their paper records. They won't change the online portal at all 😭
We are in Washington state.
Any time they need a vaccination record, a lab result, appointment notes, anything, we have to ask for hard copies.
And I get the concerns! I want kids to have confidential reproductive and mental health care. But oh my god is this going to be a giant pain in the ass for my kid who has an IEP.
So my twins are 11. At age 13, I lose access to their medical records due to privacy laws.
Here's the thing - since we're on military healthcare, they can't create a DS Logon to access their own records until they're 18.
So for FIVE FUCKING YEARS we will need to ask for hard copies of EVERYTHING.
I use a whole 1 lb of ground beef instead of half a pound but otherwise keep everything the same. You chop exactly one vegetable, an onion. It's super easy and my kids love it.
Everyone is going to start blathering on about San Marzano tomatoes and fresh garlic and basil and whatever but if you truly want a recipe that's just barely more effort than opening a jar but still tastes good, this is the one you want for quick weeknight dinners.
I once missed a connecting flight due to weather and missed half a day of an Army class as a result. I remember the instructor telling me I should have planned better. Bro, how do you want me to plan for severe thunderstorms 😭
