"IN OBSERVANCE & SOLIDARITY". Two black speech bubbles with white text read "HOURLY COMICS DAY IS NOW ON FEB 8TH. CARTOONISTS HONOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH. FEB 1 - MAR 1". There is an illustration of a black silhouetted hand raised and holding a pen in the top right, and an illustration of a nib pen and an ink well personified on the bottom right. The nib and ink are bumping fists. A URL at the bottom is "hourlycomicsday.com".
Hourly Comics Day has MOVED!
It's the 20th anniversary and we're taking a stand alongside our Black cartoonist members and friends to demand a change to honor Black History Month- draw your comics on the 8th, not the 1st!

The Life and Art of vern
Movie reviews, badass cinema studies and commentary by Vern, author of "Seagalogy" and "Yippee Ki-Yay Moviegoer!".
Check out outlawvern.com, where in one week I reviewed
1. an obscure 2023 black and white indie dramedy
2. a documentary about THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE
3. Jafar Panahi's recent Palme d'or winner
4. a broad 2012 comedy with a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes but I liked it

Black and white drawing of me sitting at the breakfast table, eating corn flakes and reading the back of the box. I'm about 10 years old and I have lots of hair and huge glasses. The corn flakes box has a Transformers logo on it
I'm holding the box and it has the Transformers logo on it and it says Free! Just send in 10 UPC codes
Final panel. It's another shot of me sitting at the table. I'm pouring more cornflakes into the bowl and shouting with my mouth full "mom, we need more corn flakes!"
A memory from the 80s. I ended up getting Downshift. He was awesome. #comics

A 3 panel comic in black and white. Panel 1 I'm lying on my bed with my android tablet thinking that it's draw a terrible comic day and it's time to put my $240 tablet to good use. Panel 2 is a shot of the tablet screen with infinite painter and balatro side by side. Panel 3 is me on the bed again thinking "maybe next year. Ooh, one more heart and I can get a flush!"
Woot, it's #makeaterriblecomicday2025 !!!

Speed (30th anniversary revisit) | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
June 10, 1994
Happy 30th anniversary of SPEED! Here's an all new look at what I think makes it work, how funny it is that Annie knows the names of everybody on the bus, how Jack Traven compares to other action heroes, and much more.

The Fall Guy | VERN'S REVIEWS on the FILMS of CINEMA
I first heard of David Leitch as one of “the JOHN WICK GUYS” - the two MATRIX RELOADED stuntmen who directed JOHN WICK and changed action cinema. Chad
I loved David Leitch's THE FALL GUY, a light-hearted romcom, a salute to stunt people, a perfect vehicle for its star, and another great Ryan Gosling examination of men too macho to express their emotions.

Me: Awesome! What did you win?
Rob: A CD and poster from Eleven!
Me: Eleven?
Rob: Haha, ya not the greatest...
And finally a little info panel. I got lazy:
Eleven was a band with Jack Irons from Pearl Jam in it.
Rob never got the CD. Just the poster.
RIP Rob, I will miss you so much...

Panel 1
I'm reading on my bed. The phone rings. It's for me. It's Rob.
Me: Hello?
Rob: Did you hear? Were you listening to Z-Rock???
Me: Oh crap, I turned it off!
Rob: I won Back Rockwards! Here, I taped it!
Announcer: Rob from Canada, what's your guess?
Rob: Is it Angry Chair?
Announcer: We have a winner! Stay on the line...
A memory from the 90s of a friend...
