The Mandelson fiasco reveals the true nature of Starmerism This is a prime minister who does not understand the difficult trade-offs involved in governing

Simon Case gave explicit advice that the vetting take place before the appointment was confirmed.

Starmer keeps saying someone else - Wormald - has since read that advice and told him that it was followed.

But he could have read the Case advice himself. Relying on Wormald's gloss is unconvincing.

I’ve signed this calling for the full Mandelson files, including vetting documents, to be published. Parliament and the public need the full facts, not partial disclosure.

Burnham is desirable but still outside the Portcullis. Rayner could try but is not yet cleared. Streeting is disqualified by the curse of Mandelson. Miliband looks condemned to become the next tragic victim to be strapped to the tumbril of No 10 Downing Street

Starmer is not going to survive. "Don't blame me, I'm only Prime Minister!" "I didn't rush to the Commons to say I'd misled it because, why should I?" His utterly disqualifying weakness always meant it was just a matter of time. Now, suddenly, time's up.

But who will replace him... see 🧵

These calls to gut welfare in the name of security deserve to be seen in exactly that light - as the work of people fighting the last war, at the expense of our ability to fight the one that may or may not actually be coming.”

Even if Magyar is no liberal, this is why it is still a huge defeat for illiberalism.

For it shows that a powerful illiberal political machine and methodology can be defeated.

Never forget that the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded jointly to Le Duc Tho as well: Vietnam's negotiator. He refused it as there was no peace. When I interviewed him in Hanoi in 1980, he dismissed Kissinger as "a liar".

Just wrote up my interview with Trần Nam who was 6 years old in 1968 and saw his entire family killed at My Lai. Only those who were 10 or older at the time of the massacre are formally considered as survivors, since younger children are not presumed to remember much. But he remembers everything.

The Guardian says Trump tweeted in Truth Social on his critics
“They’re not ‘MAGA,’ they’re losers, just trying to latch on to MAGA. As President, I could get them on my side anytime I want to, but when they call, I don’t return their calls because I’m too busy on World and Country Affairs,”

Great report on the radical right network being funded by Orban in Hungary. The recent conference on Christianity and “post-liberalism” at Pusey House, Oxford was funded in part by The Danube Institute. It drew major voices like Graham Tomlin and Iain McGilchrist. The should not have attended!

On the one hand, this is a pretty normative Christian belief.

On the other hand, wild to hear MTG — a self-described Christian nationalist — take this position in this political moment, when other self-described Christian nationalists/those associated with the movement are arguing otherwise.
