We need more climate anthems. But if you dig a little deeper than the Billboard Hot 100, there are songwriters today who include environmental messages in their music. I wrote about it for @legal-planet.org and created a 30+ song playlist of Earth Day bangers. 👂

Today would be a good day for Antonio Villaraigosa (polling less than 5%) to drop out of the race for California Governor.
Repeat after Ryan: "More drilling in California would not insulate the state from price spikes, because the price of oil is determined on the global market." Louder in the back, now!
Is the energy secretary willing to place a bet of his own money on some prediction market that coal will lead the world in global electricity?
The big, bold American industry boasting of “energy dominance” sure seems awfully fragile to need extra shield laws.
Republicans introduced federal legislation literally called the Bill To Shield American Energy Producers From Leftist Climate Litigation to give oil & gas companies immunity from laws or lawsuits that aim to hold them accountable for their role in the climate crisis hageman.house.gov/media/press-...
Here are the landfills with the highest methane emission rates detected by key satellites in 2025. 👀
UCLA’s STOP Methane Project reviewed public satellite data from Carbon Mapper showing 3,000 methane plumes from 700 waste sites worldwide to ID the highest methane emission rates detected in 2025. Each site is a huge chance for operators to fix mega-leaks. law.ucla.edu/news/spotlig...
Over just 5 days, the justices decided the issue behind closed doors. And in the entire chain of correspondence obtained by NYt , not a single justice, conservative or liberal, mentioned the dangers of a warming planet as one of the possible harms the court should consider
Secret memos detail the origins of the court’s “shadow docket” rulings on presidential power: Chief Justice John Roberts’ eagerness to block climate policy.
A new California bill by Sen. Henry Stern, SB 1359 the “Gas Transition Responsibility and Electrification Act,” would establish a comprehensive framework to manage the transition away from natural gas in a way that protects ratepayers, reduces emissions, and ensures an orderly, equitable phase-down.
In the US, ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News reduced the airtime devoted to climate change by 35%. Not so in the Global South: “There is little backsliding there. They understand the climate story is right on their doorstep.” New research from @coveringclimatenow.org @sejorg.bsky.social
The top 100 oil and gas companies collected more than $30 million every hour in unearned profit in the first month of the war on Iran, according to analysis in a new Guardian story by @dpcarrington.bsky.social.

SB 982 is basically a “Make Polluters Pay to Help Stabilize the Insurance Market” bill for California and it got its close-up yesterday in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The hearing was fascinating because the stakes are higher than just this one bill. My take: legal-planet.org/2026/04/15/m...
"We've got to put a moratorium on regulations that make it impossible for these refineries to exist... Rebate after $5.50, people need to get their money back… it will come from cap-and-invest and other programs."
Wow. Villaraigosa: "We produce the cleanest fuels in the world... We've got to put a moratorium on regulations that make it impossible for these refineries to exist."
Antonio Villaraigosa who is running for governor (again) being interviewed by Larry Mantle on @laist.com right now just said, "If we close down one more refinery in this state…gas prices are going to go to $8.75 a gallon so I’ve got a gas plan... I’m the only on in this race that has a gas plan."
Fair points. To be clear, I’m asking questions and kicking tires — I’m not trying to ‘make Becerra happen.’
In endorsing Steyer and Porter, CA Enviro Voters praises them for rejecting polluter money but I don’t think they actually point to Becerra taking oil money of late. But I could be wrong! envirovoters.org/california-g...
True. Did he in this race? Or just not pledge not to? Totally fair critique when comparing Becerra to Porter, not Steyer (easy to not take fossil fuel money when you’re a self-funded billionaire). But their records matter too — their votes in Congress and his lawsuits against fossil fuel companies.
As Health & Human Services Sec. Xavier Becerra launched a gov office to address health threats from climate change–fueled disasters, especially to communities most affected by a warming planet. On top of suing Trump 100+ times for CA, you’d think that’d score more points with climate activists.
The contractors and the work itself, even in a 1950s condo, was no problem. It was having to educate an HOA board and working with the limited amount of electricity from an old panel. But no regrets!
A photo of a heat pump condenser mounted on the outside wall of a home.
Happy #HeatPumpWeekCA to those who celebrate! We love ours but getting it installed was a ridiculously complex and burdensome process that most Californians won’t do or can’t afford. Let’s make it easier already!

NEW US electricity data ⚡️🇺🇸
In March, renewables produced more than a third of US electricity for the first time ever, even overtaking gas generation!
Wind and solar combined reached over a quarter (26%) for the first time.
Trump’s 2027 budget request calls for a nearly 50 percent cut to NASA’s science division. “We may still be able to shoot for the moon, but we’re losing the ability to understand our own world.”
I watched my wife jump out of an airplane with her sister, mother, cousin, and grandma the day after Thanksgiving and not only did all the men in the family stand on the ground and watch — I called the local news cuz it was a great TV story. Our VP is a sexist weakling.
