Excited to share our new paper on the state of #OceanAcidification knowledge in #Canada and pathways for action! Thanks to all our amazing coauthors and our community who continue to champion OA knowledge to action initiatives (such as the BC OAH Action Forum on March 3)!

A new study reveals that the Broken Group Islands off the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC, are a bright spot for shellfish populations in the northeast Pacific Ocean—demonstrating a sustainable relationship between local First Nations and shellfish over millennia. 🔗https://tinyurl.com/5psvxjsa

exciting new Crab🦀 science🧪 publication led by @barnaclebarclay.bsky.social Banting postdoc working to apply paleobiology techniques to learn about Indigenous crab fisheries via the scars left on clam shells

New paper alert! We combined modern ecology, archaeology, and a palaeontology technique of examining crab 🦀 claw marks on their clam prey to examine how these shellfish populations have changed over 3000 years.

After Cuts, Former NOAA Chief Scientist Says U.S. Science Risks Becoming a “Backwater Enterprise” - bioGraphic With its first wave of firings, the new Trump administration has decimated NOAA.

🌊 @noaa.gov was a leader on ocean acidification (OA) and marine carbon dioxide removal (#mCDR). This research is decimated by the firings of many outstanding staff, including the leaders of the OA and mCDR groups, my close colleagues Sarah Cooley and Gabby Kitch. #StandUpForScience

Estimating size-at-harvest from Indigenous archaeological clamshell assemblages in Coastal British Columbia Shellfish have supported Indigenous lifeways on the Pacific Coast of North America for millennia. Despite the ubiquity of clamshells in archaeological sites, shell size measurements are rarely reporte...

And here, we estimate clam size based on shell fragments from Indigenous archaeological shell midden sites!

Predation scars provide a new method to distinguish native and invasive crab predation on mollusc prey We present a new cost-effective method for identifying species-specific crab predation on mollusc prey. By applying geometric morphometrics to analyse the shape of the damage they leave on their shel...

Here, we look at differences in the shape of predation scars/claw marks generated by 3 crab species, including #Dungeness, red rock, and #EuropeanGreenCrabs.
