Pandemonium Warden from the next expansion was also a notorious aberration that got some press but nothing can beat AV in the realm of unfathomably bad design (and terminally bad handling of the situation by the FFXI team across many years)

Is this a sign that a video on ongoing progress and future REV segments is in the works? The city's comms on those topics could be a lot better... At least the montreal.ca/en/articles/... page has a high level map and was updated for 2024-2027 but details are sparse

You have better self-control than I do then. Once I reached a certain level (of skill, but maybe more importantly of confidence), conversation with friends did become a good way to refine and keep things sharp, but before that point I'd pretty quickly get frustrated and slip back into EN/FR.

I tried conversation with friends but never made much progress that way. I have a good Japanese friend who was studying French (my native language) at the time but since we both spoke English we'd usually end up reverting back to that. My teacher wouldn't let me do that, which helped a lot.

There's a certain amount of luck involved with finding a good match and 1-on-1 tends to be relatively pricy but a skilled teacher will be able to give you customized feedback on things to work on, paired with a lot of conversation practice.

Have you tried private lessons? I studied Japanese for 6 months in college, then basically stopped for 10 years before deciding I'd pick it back up starting with the full jōyō kanji. This made me an awful fit for most structured courses, but 1-on-1 lessons at a local place gave me a massive boost.
