The programmable fuzes are better (because they cost less, with the fuze timing set as they’re fired). Also no worry of any down-range fratricide for rounds that miss. Proximity is of course well proven, but I think cost per round is significantly higher.

The problem with any gun system (or any SHORAD) is having it in the right place at the right time. Good for point defense or along common routes. Of course, a gun attached to an airplane (e.g., Vulcan cannon) is highly portable. So layered integrated system is way to go.
