The author of this article refused to sign an NDA, giving up severance and healthcare benefits to tell this story.

If you didn't read it already, read it.

Because he refused, we may be able to stop the Kennedy Center from being sold for parts and turned into a gaudy MAGA fundraising warehouse.

A reminder that transphobes are trash and a charm initiative after years of trash being trash is not particularly credible.

Dear Mr Vance, stick to something you know about. Sofas, maybe.

I was very much impressed by The Long Shadow TV drama about the Yorkshire Ripper, precisely because it focused on the victims, told you who they were, & how they'd come to be in a position where they were vulnerable to him. Recommended.

I think I've just found the title for my autobiography.

Rewatching The Devil's Hour, a creepy, often baffling mystery, much recommended. Superb performances from everyone, especially Jessica Raine, and Peter Cappaldi couldn't be more sinister if he sent out for fava beans and a nice chianti.

I think it's because most people regard Saudi & Pakistan as "alien" cultures, while they think of Israel as an extension of the West and Western values. Could be they're wrong on both counts.

People compare current events to Fahrenheit 451, Handmaid's Tale, etc., but they're wrong. The real parallel is with I, Claudius, especially the TV version with John Hurt -- everyone trying desperately to pacify Caligula, the mad emperor. And failing.

ICE to Aid Airport Security Amid Partial Shutdown, Border Czar Says

TSA is against this. The TSA union says it will make their jobs harder, not easier. The American public is against this. And Dems have offered seven times to pay TSA and Republicans have refused to come to the table.

This is about fear tactics, not long lines.

Genet's Miracle of the Rose (it had a Max Ernst picture on the cover). "What? These are all MEN!!!" Finished it several years later and enjoyed it immensely.

Yep. I was told the word-of-mouth bit years ago by a former Waterstones manager. The snag, of course, is that to get that word of mouth, people need to have heard of your book in the first place.

At least that's not talking about people. I dunno why, but "deplane" seems somehow weirdly impersonal to me, as if you might as well say "unload". Both of which I shall probably now find myself using...

From where do we get those two ridiculous terms "deplane" and "detrain"? Are they technical words, used in the transport industry? Or could no-one remember the word "disembark"? (I am about to stand up, which means, I suppose, that I will "desofa". Then I'll "dehouse" to walk the dog.)

Six Common Scams Aimed at Writers - Lee Goldberg Lee Goldberg identifies six common scams targeting writers and self-published authors and tells you how to avoid being swindled.

A burgeoning scam aimed at writers is "we want to interview you on a podcast, we admire [insert your latest title]" and they want a (for example) 2000 dollar fee. I only appear on podcasts I know of, reputable ones, and of course they don't charge. ANY fee = scam. Here's just one list of scams.

The slogan on the cookie packet reads, "Girl scouts bring their dreams to life", and I think, that's a horror film waiting to be made right there.
