The one I hear the most from people who ironically usually have no contact with any youth outside of maybe their own children is that "kids these days are all anti social"
Another one young people get told a lot is that they are Lazy

Either that young people are lazy (often it’s just that adults haven’t tried to work with them / no youth friendly spaces / no relationships to encourage engagement) or young people are less intelligent than adults (just factually incorrect and an inappropriate metric by which to judge young people)
Youth work can challenge these by building meaningful relationships with young people, to build their confidence and also validate their experiences to allow them to challenge them and not internalise!
I collaborate with YP to conduct research in schools. We empower them to draw on their own and their peers lived-experience to improve their time in school. This counters the stereotype that adults are the only ones who can create new knowledge in schools! The same I believe is true in wider society.
I’m discussing stereotypes about young people & how this can influence how they feel & behave with my Level 2 Youth Work students. Which stereotype do you think is the most damaging? How can we challenge it through #youthwork?

So I got back to work today after being off & in my short absence #Sheffield has become #Christmas … our steel city is so pretty! Organising the youth club trips now ….
Did you think consent was just about learning to say no? Teaching young people the full meaning of informed consent, along with when you can & can’t give it, is the starting point for all relationships & sex education #RSE #mentalhealth #sexeducation #youthwork
Thank you 🙏
Will be saying goodbye to colleagues at Community Youth Services in #Sheffield soon. I love my job, but this time will be hard to leave a city I’ve come to love. It has truly been a pleasure. #youthwork #youthparticipation #ChooseYouthWork
Yes please to children and young people’s health and the starter pack on children’s participation, very much the areas I work in - thanks

Big day for me - publication day for ‘The Positive Relationships Classroom Activity Book’. Feels strange every time the months of research & scribbled notes result in an actual book! Thank you @JKP @hachette.bsky.social
Especially advice on sexual health … still hearing about too many old myths that are still being presented as ‘facts’ on social media .. scary stuff!
