The revolving door between private firms hoping to profit off of the NHS, and NHS directorships, is a form of obvious corruption that has somehow become normalised.
As @goodlawproject.org have pointed out, among many others, Palantir is a company inextricably linked to the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, and the Labour government as a whole. When they come out with scary shit like this it is time to cut ties, fast.

The Jedwabne pogrom of 1941 was one of the most brutal acts in the entire Shoah, committed by Poles against Polish Jews, not by the occupying Germans. Now the local government and people are denying that Poles committed this act. www.timesofisrael.com/polish-towns...
The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.
Resharing this now that BlueSky is working again

RFUK has supported individuals experiencing domestic abuse whilst on spouse routes to settlement and our first priority will always be with the victim who deserves absolute protection, belief, support and access to a system that allows them to escape violence and rebuild their lives here in the UK.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Ahmed Shihab Eldin for 15 years.
He’s an incredible journalist with a spine of steel, a heart of gold, and immense ethical and moral integrity.
Please sign this petition from @CPJ so we can get him released — and share widely.

Early start to give evidence to select committee on child poverty. Prep reminded me anew just how vital it is to scrap the Benefit Cap
300,000 children would be in less deep poverty if the cap were to go (@cpaguk) & DWP figures suggest 60,000 will not fully benefit from 2CL abolition while it stays
Read the concerns from the cross-sector meeting we convened in Parliament in which we together with experts, unions warn the Govt’s “earned settlement” plans will harm families, public services & the economy without delivering the claimed benefits.

Canada’s carceral system disproportionately impacts indigenous peoples and communities. Preventing incarcerated people from accessing libraries is about more than saving a paltry couple million bucks per year. This is disgusting.
Hence @ucunorthumbria.bsky.social are on strike again 20-24 April. 💪💪💪

From today, for thousands of couples and families staying together in the UK just got even more expensive.
Visa fees are rising again — quietly wrecking lives.
We know that around 60–70% of many visa fees are profit
This is not cost recovery, it is excessive charging at the expense of families💔
Good to see this from children's charities among many others: earned settlement reforms likely to have especially negative impact on children and families on low income including by punishing families for accessing much needed benefits www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...
Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.
King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.
New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.
They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.

“How are we going to deal with former leaders who have committed very serious crimes”, a real live issue right across the white people world now
The right's pitch for women's submission is that it will cause men to provide, protect, and cherish women.
Turns out the opposite is true. Research shows conservative men see tradwives as lazy parasites. They loathe them.

Screenshot of a post from Donald Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!
The President of the United States is openly threatening to commit genocide against 90 million people.
Prime Minister Carney: if there was ever a moment to denounce this illegal war, withdraw your support, and call for accountability for war crimes—it’s now.
Whenever someone says "there are no civilians in [country]," they are making an argument for genocide.
The UK must immediately and unequivocally suspend support for the US military.
The Government have tried to appease him, then they tried to say they're standing up to him.
Words aren't enough - it's time for action.
'In 2023, UK universities spent a total of £500m on education agents – but there is very little oversight of how these agents operate.'
'Once students got their offers, they were passed on to the visa team, and finally delivered to universities as a fully wrapped, fee-paying package.'

Do I think that anything I write to her will actually make a difference? Almost certainly not. But I will keep writing, just in case I am wrong; and also, so she can't claim ignorance once Labour policies start harming her constituents.
Is she "out of touch"? In many ways no, she seems to always be meeting with constituents, attending local events, etc.
But she has abdicated decision making to the Labour leadership - a group that is so ideologically driven that empirical reality is meaningless for them.
I've written to my Labour MP a few times, and she always replies in a long letter telling me that she understands my concerns, she has met with constituents, she has asked a question in Parliament, etc...
But she always makes it clear that she will toe the party line, irrespective of the above.
New book out!!🎉💫 How do border regimes restructure life and labour for migrant workers? How do migrantized workers struggle for a better life against all odds - and in doing so, shape the world?
