As an ECE who was a delegate today and still listening to this part of the meeting - hearing this and then seeing a unanimous vote was a bright spot for the 2025 child care sector.

Seeing "Classrooms, Care, and Communities" in the background really highlights your point here.

This is exactly like the province underfunding older licensed child care programs, forcing them to use up reserves, and now that reserves are used up they have no idea how to support a sustainable sector going forward. The line of questioning from this councillor is ridiculous.

She raises an excellent point. Not everything can be about dollars and cents.

Daycare workers want Sask. government to sign federal funding agreement | CBC News Saskatchewan daycare operators say they're frustrated with the province for not yet signing on to extend the $10-a-day child-care deal set to expire next year.

I cannot understand the play here. Many programs are a crossroads of closing the door or limping along until a funding model is developed for licensed child care. The province has heard from us - not sure how to make it clearer. Sign an extension and continue the work.

For those out there in SK Blue Sky land... what would you do if you no longer had access to child care? There is a crisis starting to brew in many programs where this is becoming a real question that deserves serious consideration. Open to thoughts and chats.

The Zoolander scene where all of the male models who are not as attractive as they think they are are spraying one another with gasoline and then lighting a cigarette is SK/AB culture

I am in Early Education and I can guarantee that the person sending that letter hates sending it as much as you hate getting it... haha.

Was the one at the Bay the one with the spiral that you drove down? My childhood self was always delighted when we parked in that parkade haha.

I often think of "love your neighbour like yourself", and use it as a guiding practice in life. Doesn't mean I always get it, but it is worth striving for!

The privilege it takes to look at this issue as a single issue without considering all the other policies that need to be addressed and advocated for to actually support all human beings is astounding.

All Saskatoon children deserve an equal start: Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation - Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation Originally published in the Saskatoon Star Phoenix on Oct 08, 2021 “A child who can’t read at grade level by […]

When we underfund ed, children miss early interventions and lag in executive functioning, numeracy and literacy skills. Children who cannot read at grade level by grade 3 are four times less likely to graduate from high school on time, affecting all other outcomes.

Public education is a part of this "single issue" as well. Children in our schools need teachers, EA's, therapists of all times, and funding that meets the needs of everyone. It doesn't matter if your children do not attend public schools, not funding public education hurts all of us.

It means that public health needs transparency and adequate funding. So often, the supports of children in schools are linked to our health system and having a "diagnosis", and when public health suffers with long waiting lists, so do our children.

It means that we care about social programs such as income supports, child care subsidies, affordable housing, and harm reduction. If one is pro-life then we need to care about life for the entirety of a human being.

Being pro-life should mean that we care deeply about high quality, publicly funded Early Learning and Child Care programs that are accessible, affordable, and inclusive. All children and families should be able to find a space if it would support them as a family unit.

I've been thinking about single issue voting for a few days. It's hard to see so many be so narrow in focus when it comes to voting for pro-life reasons as to me, this is an area that is anything BUT a single issue. I'm not here to influence beliefs in this area, its so personal.
