My First Time as a Movie Extra: Behind the Scenes of an Indie Film ExperiencePart 3 – My First Day as an Extra First lesson? Be on time. I was 30 minutes late. Not on purpose… There was a marathon in the city and streets were blocked, so I had to keep circling around trying to get there. But I made a decision: I’m going anyway. Because I wanted to: Support Brenda and TheresaExperience a movie setSee behind the scenes And I’m so glad I did.

I was 30 minutes late…

Blocked streets. Marathon traffic. Everything going wrong.

I almost turned around.

But I didn’t.

And what I experienced behind the scenes of that movie set?

My First Time As A Movie Extra – Part 2 – My Acting Reality Check Let me tell you something… Acting is HARD. A few years ago, I did a church play and only had a few lines. And when I tell you…memorizing those lines, delivering them, and actually acting? Whew! Now imagine doing that on a movie set. Multiple takes.Same scene.Over and over again. You have to: Remember your lines…

Let me tell you something real…

Acting is NOT easy.

What looks effortless on screen?

Takes multiple takes, patience, and serious focus.

After being on set—even as an extra—I have a whole new level of respect.

And I’m sharing exactly why.

My First Time as a Movie Extra: Behind the Scenes of an Indie Film Experience – Part 1 Saturday, I had the opportunity to be an extra in an upcoming movie… and I’m still smiling about it. First, let me give credit where it’s due. The screenplay is written by Theresa Taylor, and the director is Brenda Hampton. Now listen… I need to correct myself because I was so excited in my video I created, I said Brenda’s name wrong.

I had NO idea what I was walking into…

I thought she was financing movies.

Turns out?

She’s directing them.

And what I witnessed changed how I look at dreams, opportunities… and taking action.

🎬 I got to be an extra in a movie—and this is just Part 1.

Building Your Readership – 2026 Issue #5 – Strategy Part 1: The 3 Promotion Pillars Every Author Needs Part 1: The 3 Promotion Pillars Every Author Needs Hello Authors, Most authors don’t struggle with promotion because they lack ideas. They struggle because they don’t have a system. So they post randomly… stop… start again… and wonder why nothing is working. If you want consistent visibility and sales, you need structure. Today, I want to introduce you to 3 promotion pillars…

You’re not struggling with book promotion because you don’t know what to do.

You’re struggling because you don’t have a system.

Most authors are:
Posting randomly
Stopping
Starting again
Hoping something works

And that cycle keeps repeating.

I broke this down in today’s newsletter

Now as a sci-fi romance author
I can imagine what happens inside the ship.

The conversations.

The silence.

The unexpected emotions.

What happens when you’re in space and your heart gets involved?

Are you keeping up with the Artemis II mission?

I’ve been so caught up with BTS lately, I completely missed the launch.

And now I’m sitting here thinking—
There are people in space right now heading toward the Moon.

I’ve always been fascinated by the moon and space travel.

Fear On The Couch – Starting My Book Revision Last night I revised three chapters. I had been in I’m gonna mode for two weeks. Fear was sitting on the couch with me whispering, why bother nobody is going to read your book. It sucks so why try to make it better. I was listening too. Last night I remember that I always felt like this and it was the reason I never let anyone read my manuscript or published them.

How many readers do you have?

You can’t be a drive by author thinking posting once every now and then will bring readers to you.

No matter what strategy you choose, it can’t work if you’re not consistent with doing it.

Are you consistent with your book promotion or are you a drive by book promoter?

Book promotion is a different experience for each author. It takes time to build your readership.

It doesn’t happen with one post.

The one thing I’ve seen that does work for every author is being consistent.

As a person who teaches book promotion, I’ve learned that each author is different. I could share a book promotion strategy with one author, and her book promotion would blow up. I would share the same strategy with another author, and they got crickets.

Starting A New Book I’m officially starting a new book today. Or should I say I’m revising one of my books that’s been waiting for me to finish. Last week I listened to the manuscript to see how much work it needed. It isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I need to make a few major changes, but I believe it will improve the story a lot.

Building Your Readership Newsletter – 2026 Issue #4 – Turning Social Media Attention Into Email Subscribers Hello Authors,In the last issue, we talked about the difference between visibility and readership. You can have views, likes, and comments and still not build a readership. Why?Because attention without direction doesn’t lead anywhere. If readers don’t know what to do next, they scroll past and move on.That’s why your goal on social media is not just to be seen.

I get it but it’s a toxic love.

Now I think I’m ready to try dark romance.

What would you recommend I start with as a newbie.

I’ve never been into dark romance and didn’t understand the hype until I watched this drama.

The character of Qi Min is driving women crazy. He is super dark and I keep seeing all these posts hoping he gets with his woman.

I’m like you know this man is psycho but you still think it’s real love.

I’ve watched the Oscars for many years so I’m not surprised with its outcome ever. I’m happy for the ones I wanted to win.

If you haven’t seen Sinners watch it and come back and tell me if they were robbed for best picture.

I didn’t watch the Oscars last night. Something that I normally do. I went to bed learning Michael B Jordan won for best Actor. That put a smile on my face.

Then I woke up to learn Golden won for best song and Ryan won for best screen play.

That gives me joy for today.

You know I love a good crying drama and this did not disappoint. Plenty of crying scenes.

We enjoyed this and highly recommend it if you want to laugh, cry and holler at the screen.

My husband selected this story. I like the leads so I was invested.

I haven’t seen any recommendations for this so I wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did. One scene my stomach ached I laughed so much.

Building Your Readership Newsletter 2026 Issue #3 Visibility vs. Readership – Why Being Seen Isn’t Enough Hello Authors, One of the biggest frustrations I hear from authors is this: "I'm posting everywhere, but my book sales haven't changed." You may be visible online, but visibility alone doesn't build readership. This is where many authors, myself included get stuck. We focus on numbers like views, likes, and comments, assuming those numbers automatically translate into readers. What I’ve learned is that visibility and readership are two different things.
