Besides the fact that he uniquely combines bigotry, corruption and incompetence?

No reason.

This is fascinating. It appears the AI bot Claude may be more ethical than the people using him.

You can actually see the moment Ed Miliband thinks, what's the point burning through whatever political credibility I've got left energetically defending a man who's going to be gone in a matter of weeks.

Given that Starmer is Dead Man Walking, and likely to be ousted by his own caucus within days of the May 7 local / Senned / Scottish Parliament elections, I am moved to wonder:

Is there *anyone* in the Parliamentary Labour Party who could actually turn the Titanic around and avoid the iceberg?

Pauli Murray was eventually ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church, and there has been a move in some quarters to add her name to the church calendar (which is the closest thing Anglican / Episcopal Churches have to canonizing someone as a saint).

Ah. I’ve found my answer further down the thread.

I have to say, the *concept* of the OTM and the profile are actually quite brilliant, but based on my experience with (the old) system, there was a large degree of opportunity missed by bad execution (and possibly by deliberate avoidance).

Avi Lewis in the long shadow of populism Avi Lewis’ election as NDP leader evokes a broader North American tradition of populism. That dynamic is evident in the party’s effort to rebuild its base and widen its appeal through a more assertive...

Avi Lewis’ leadership is decidedly left-wing in orientation, but also part of a longer tradition of internal renewal—one that points to the recurring need to reopen the NDP to new ideas, new constituencies, and more ambitious political horizons.

If trickle-down economics worked at all, the world gaining 400 billionaires last year would have set off an economic boom, given everyone raises, and lowered our prices.

But it didn't. Because trickle-down economics is a scam designed to make the rich richer off the rest of us.

While I agree the any sense of “promotion” is inappropriate, I think piling on order after order (eg, priests are still deacons) creates its own problems. For a millennium, we reduced the diaconate to an apprenticeship for the priesthood. (Ironically, we don’t treat priests as apprentice bishops.)

I’m old enough to remember when deacons were “made,” priests were “ordained,” and bishops were “consecrated.” I get the reason for the shift, and I generally conform to it, but I can’t get worked up over it.

Woodrow Lloyd never gets the credit he deserves for the successful implementation of universal health care in Canada.

Tommy Douglas may have been the Father of Medicare, but it was Woodrow Lloyd who delivered the baby.

And Tommy Douglas would be the first to say so.

Streeting’s bigotry isn’t just limited to trans people then. He’s a multitasking bigot.

I get a demographically representative sample where 80% say they voted NDP last April would be a problem, but . . .

I recall reading that recalled past vote is unreliable. Winning parties, third parties being artificially high.

Does your use of this *correct* a problem, or introduce further error?

Four panel cartoon.

Panel 1: “On March 30th, a fencer named Stephanie Turner forfeited a bout because her opponent was trans. Her refusal to compete disqualified her from the competition.”

Panel 2: “Here’s the thing, though: fencing is typically a coed sport at non-elite level. Turner herself was competing against cis men (and won) a week earlier.”

Panel 3: “Turner’s actions prove that nothing about the ‘trans athletes’ moral panic is about fairness.”

Panel 4: “After she made international headlines, a conservative group gave her a $5000 ‘courage’ award for her unsportsmanlike conduct. Her trans opponent went on to place 24th at the competition.”
