Outside of the biomed. research death & unemployment that will happen from the #NIH indirects cut:
- tuition hikes ➡️ increased healthcare costs
- state tax loss ➡️ cuts to other programs
- loss of educated workforce ➡️ affects all sectors w/ compounded effect on K-12 education
What have I missed?
On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings.
But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
Notably missing from their list of things that are sexist & racist are the words “men” and “male”.
Accountability as a word and a concept is also completely absent.
