I was able to remove the parental control lock, and it is now stress testing in a game. even without USB 2.0, it functions just fine with the dock and official charger, so it still has a good life ahead of it 🦊👍

today's fox fix was an experience... this switch had a bad USB port which fried the charging chip, and I later found also permanently damaged the processor's USB 2.0 controller. after replacing those, I turned it on.. and was treated to a parental control lock. at least I got it working again 🦊👍

maybe my favorite bit of cosmetic damage I have had to document for a listing:

"Rear housing exhibits minor wear from normal use, as well as shallow inscriptions of a child's name and a smiley face."

I recently swapped my personal OLED switch's motherboard into a different housing, but a few days later noticed severely reduced bluetooth range for the joy-con. so I disassembled it again, and.. silly foxes make silly mistakes 😵‍💫

what a blessed fix fox day ✨🦊✨ just as I was winding down for the night, I checked my parts/repair ebay searches and caught an absolutely unreal pair of "don't want to bother testing, selling as is" listings

sure enough, the via that was responsible for carrying that enable signal to the 1.7v regulator had been eaten away by liquid damage. one tidy jumper wire and it is ready to (pokemon) go again 🦊👍

the box of these is now empty! I was able to fully repair 39 of them so far, with a few being unrepairable, and the rest going in the "later" drawer, either having much deeper/more time consuming issues, or being banned. all in all I think that is one fine lot of fox fixing 🦊👍

today's fox fix is an OLED switch that.. had nothing wrong with it..?? I bought it as no power with a description of "shocked me and then turned off", so I assumed a faulty charger and shorted charging IC, but it just.. turned on?? I will put it through stress testing, but I guess that is a fix 🦊👍

today's fox fix was a ride.. this switch had a black screen after the nintendo logo. the voltage regulator for the GPU was getting boiling hot, so I replaced it, but no change.. I then noticed a nearby filter capacitor was shorted to ground. I popped it off with my tweezers, and.. it booted up 🦊👍

shoutout to the girl I met in a dream last night at a house party who was showing off her hacked playstation vita (OLED, she pointed out) with episodes of regular show on it. you were awesome

today's fox fix is a switch that had shorted USB C configuration channels due to a faulty charging IC, and a missing pin on the SD card reader connector. I replaced the pin and reflowed the connector to align it better, and replaced the charging IC. no more boot errors, and no USB or SD issues 🦊👍

rough day for fox fixing.. the first two switch repairs in a row ended up both being banned units somehow.. I took a long walk and a long bath to clear my head, and then repaired two more that fortunately were not banned 🦊👍

the switch I fixed today had a copy of super mario odyssey on it, and I found I can still do frog skip 🦊👍 I absolutely adore the movement in this game

on a nice spring walk and just saw my first dragonfly of the year.. this rejuvenates the step 🦊🌻

for melting the flux..? I just used normal tap water, letting the container float on the surface and occasionally taking it out and jostling it a bit to see if it felt liquid inside

a bit of fox craftiness today; I needed to restock on soldering flux, and could get a 10g syringe for $15, or a 100g tub for $30.. I went for the tub and put it in warm water until the flux was liquid and could be drawn into an empty thermal paste syringe. now I have easy flux whenever I need 🦊👍
