Over the weekend I attended Hard Done By, a block of contemporary trans Irish short films programmed by my friend James Hudson while visiting Chicago, and I've got little reviews of each if you're interested in just what was put on. An absolutely killer line-up. letterboxd.com/draculavoice...

Remains to be seen if the FF are even going to be around for more of whatever they're plotting, or if they're just here to get introduced and then beaten bad by Doom later so that everybody knows how badass Doom is.

My theory is that the MCU's FANTASTIC FOUR takes place in a completely alternate timeline/universe (which is why it seems to be set in the past, or a FALLOUT-esque retrofuture), which Doctor Doom will successfully conquer before setting his sights on the "main" universe. Makes this feel stakeless.

this does make sense yeah. i wonder what this MCU FF movie would be if it didn't certainly exist just to set up doctor doom for phase slop of cycle bullshit

Let me be clear though: there is a reason why "man, the effects for The Thing from that 2005 movie were actually good as hell" is the only thing (lol) anybody actually remembers fondly about it

though i will say that the practical Thing effects from 2005 somehow remain immensely charming, in the way the suits from the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES movie still are too. ESPECIALLY when you compare how the left fares against the right in motion.

i know that late-stage marvel slop is a good punching bag but i just know we're about to experience an absolutely insane level of delusional critical reappraisal of the 2005 FANTASTIC FOUR movie

Letterboxd review of WILD THINGS (1998) that reads: Despite literally being called Wild Things, there's nothing that could adequately prepare you for how wild these things are. Every character in this movie is bisexual and operating on a scheme or ulterior motive multiple layers deep. There are at least four plot twists. It's the sleaziest, steamiest, and maybe the most American movie ever made. Bros rocking out about beating the allegations segues perfectly into women making #herstory, making it simultaneously a misogynist and feminist masterpiece. Polyamory would not have saved them but it would have been really funny. Neve Campbell is the most beautiful woman to ever walk the earth. Cinema peaked with these south Florida freaks; flawless Suzie Toller victory.
