As I keep saying, displaying the Ten Commandments in schools and Bible readings in class put teachers—agents of the state—in the position of interpreting religious scripture. This is an attack on the rights of those who believe in these scriptures, as well as those who don’t.
They’re not really restricting the industrial development authorities.
Last night, after an hours-long public hearing, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass an ordinance permanently banning data centers.
The city council voted unanimously to declare data centers a public nuisance, and to "prohibit all data centers within city limits."
My story:
Here's an important read for today: policymakers are encouraging students to learn trades that are costly to teach, but community colleges and apprenticeships don't have the capacity to meet demand. This sends students to the more expensive for-profit sector, where they take on debt.
I do think tech companies are underestimating the amount of

The murder case against Cortez George fell apart. Then he was killed after St. Paddy’s Day.
In the wake of her son's death, Stephanie George became one of many Jacksonians who’ve lost loved ones to gun violence and will likely wonder for the rest of their lives what went wrong.
Oh I see they’re doing an Arkansas thing here.
For @slate.com & @economichardship.bsky.social, I reported on how chaos and changes surrounding SNAP benefits are taking a toll.
People described endless fear and worry over feeding their kids, where their next meal will come from, and whether SNAP could become even more difficult to access.
This feels 1970 linoleum

Every day, all over the country, people get released like this. I volunteered waiting outside a detention center for releases since 2018 and they are all like this. There will be a lot to unpack here, but right from the jump I am struck by this utterly bizarre gerrymandering of Mahmoud v. Taylor

George Ariyoshi, a Honolulu-born Japanese American politician who shattered voting traditions in the nation’s only state with an Asian plurality, becoming Hawaii’s — and America’s — first governor of Asian descent, died on Sunday at his home in Honolulu. He was 100.
I will be campaigning against it, knocking on neighbors’ doors! It’s insane.
They hate the library bc it has books for teens about sex and lgbtq characters. They fired the director.
Their public reason: population has grown so the tax rate can be cut. They will magically still receive the same amount because of a reassessment. They operate 3 locations on $4 million a year.
70 Minnesota children.
Delta Air Lines, who likely flew nearly all of these kiddos out of MSP, could publicly condemn this and end the practice tomorrow, as the airlines did in 2018 with family separation, but it’s easier to stay silent.
Anti-Data Center organizing is really ramping up especially in the South.
My county government is voting tonight to ask voters to cut our library tax.
Honorary degrees dilute the hard-earned degrees of graduates.
A judge has temporarily blocked an Arkansas law set to take effect Tuesday that would have restricted minors’ social media access.
Tech industry trade group NetChoice in January filed a lawsuit challenging Act 900 of 2025, which sought to amend a 2023 law found to be unconstitutional. #arpx
