As I keep saying, displaying the Ten Commandments in schools and Bible readings in class put teachers—agents of the state—in the position of interpreting religious scripture. This is an attack on the rights of those who believe in these scriptures, as well as those who don’t.

Monterey Park becomes the first city in California to ban "all data centers within city limits" Residents of the small enclave east of LA not only killed their city's proposed 250,000 square foot data center, they pushed city council to ban them altogether

Last night, after an hours-long public hearing, Monterey Park became the first city in California to pass an ordinance permanently banning data centers.

The city council voted unanimously to declare data centers a public nuisance, and to "prohibit all data centers within city limits."

They Chose Careers in the Trades and Still Wound Up With Debt As community colleges and union apprenticeships fill up, more students are turning to pricier training options for blue-collar careers.

Here's an important read for today: policymakers are encouraging students to learn trades that are costly to teach, but community colleges and apprenticeships don't have the capacity to meet demand. This sends students to the more expensive for-profit sector, where they take on debt.

I do think tech companies are underestimating the amount of
- new account fatigue
- new app fatigue
- useless upgrade fatigue
- terms of service fatigue

The murder case against Cortez George fell apart. Then he was killed after St. Paddy’s Day. In the wake of her son's death, Stephanie George became one of many Jacksonians who’ve lost loved ones to gun violence and will likely wonder for the rest of their lives what went wrong.

It Could Lead to Tens of Thousands of Deaths. In the Meantime, It’s Wreaking Havoc on Americans’ Sanity. Imagine not being able to feed your kid because of a mistake on a piece of paperwork.

For @slate.com & @economichardship.bsky.social, I reported on how chaos and changes surrounding SNAP benefits are taking a toll.

People described endless fear and worry over feeding their kids, where their next meal will come from, and whether SNAP could become even more difficult to access.

Maryland to become first state to ban ‘dynamic pricing’ in grocery stores Governor Wes Moore said he is excited to sign the new bill.

This bill isn’t magic or even sufficient on its own, but reflects what serving your constituents actually looks like. Frankly a breath of fresh air in this fascist hellscape.

Every day, all over the country, people get released like this. I volunteered waiting outside a detention center for releases since 2018 and they are all like this. Family notified across the country that day, released in clothing they entered in 6 months ago, no phone, money, OR IDEA WHERE THEY ARE

Arkansas proposed 60% in 2022. Thankfully voters rejected it. If the law had been in effect from 2000, less than half of proposals (including legislature’s) would have passed.

George Ariyoshi, 100, America’s First Governor of Asian Descent, Dies A Democrat, he served three terms as Hawaii’s governor (1974-86), rising out of a tough district of Honolulu. He tried to diversify an economy heavily dependent on tourism.

George Ariyoshi, a Honolulu-born Japanese American politician who shattered voting traditions in the nation’s only state with an Asian plurality, becoming Hawaii’s — and America’s — first governor of Asian descent, died on Sunday at his home in Honolulu. He was 100.

They hate the library bc it has books for teens about sex and lgbtq characters. They fired the director.

Their public reason: population has grown so the tax rate can be cut. They will magically still receive the same amount because of a reassessment. They operate 3 locations on $4 million a year.

ICE detained more than 70 Minnesota children, data reveals Immigration officials detained more than 70 Minnesota children between Dec. 1 and March 10, a Sahan analysis of court records and federal deportation data shows.

70 Minnesota children.

Delta Air Lines, who likely flew nearly all of these kiddos out of MSP, could publicly condemn this and end the practice tomorrow, as the airlines did in 2018 with family separation, but it’s easier to stay silent.

Tech industry trade group NetChoice in January filed a lawsuit challenging Act 900 of 2025, which sought to amend a 2023 law found to be unconstitutional. #arpx
