The issue though lies in the fact we're meant to feel sympathy about a relationship that not only couldn't happen, but for a complete stranger at this point. Why am I gonna root for, feel bad, or have any emotional reaction when he only gets 5 minutes of screen time.

Like allow us to build a connection to a character so the death feels more impactful as opposed to just another patient they couldn't save. For an example from The Good Doctor in season 2 in one episode they created a paramedic for one of the doctors to have a romantic interest in.

I started watching The Good Doctor. I like it so far, interesting, I don't know how accurately it depicts anything medically though lol. My biggest complaint I see with shows like this is when they spontaneously create a love interest just so they can kill them off.
