Me: Be normal, be cool, be normal, be cool...
Someone: Hi! Nice to meet you.
Me: You remind me of a character I killed off in my book!
Sounds like great progress! Getting that first draft down is a huge success in itself. The Derby is an annual event where authors are assigned covers and pen names, and the challenge is to write and publish their stories within the given dates! You can read about it here: www.inkfortpress.com/derby
Thank you, excited to hear more about your next steps!
Have I written anything today? No.
But β I *did* pass by a bookshop, and I *didn't* go in.
So not a good day overall. π
Same here, very much trying to figure it out as I go π Glad to have the opportunity to connect with other authors in the same boat!
This is such a helpful resource! I'm glad I stumbled across it just in time for June. Will definitely be giving some of the prompts a try!
Just stumbled across your page, and I love your story's concept! Definitely intrigued.
Your art is adorable!
That's such a special milestone! We don't know each other, but I'm so happy for you as a fellow writer who also reached the same goal just recently. Congratulations!
Nice! I'm in the beginning stages, just fleshing out some ideas and mapping things out. As you might have seen, I'm a participant of the Inkfort Derby, which means I have to get the book written in two months. What about you, what stage are you at?
I'm a fan of litfic, but for this novel I'm working on fantasy (with a potential romance subplot) for the first time. How about you? I joined the community very recently too. Happy to connect π
Well said. That's the aim for this first rough draft β outline or no outline, get through it somehow and worry about the rest later. π Hopefully the story reveals more about itself in time!
I'll go with yes, because that'll make me feel more productive than I've actually been π
Exactly, glad someone else feels that way! It feels like a balancing act between planning ahead and allowing yourself to explore and discover things during the writing process.
A good reminder for my fellow Derby authors π€ As I work on my rough draft, trying to give myself the permission to write freely without judging the quality. Nobody will read it but me, anyway.

Indeed! Can't complain about the wealth of wonderful stories, though. π
Such a stunning cover! This will be yet another addition to the neverending TBR pile...

Thought skipping the First Line in the rough draft would take some pressure off. The strategy might have backfired.

It's been about a week since I started working on this book. I'm impatient to start drafting, but it's taking time to get to the heart of this story.
So, some goals for the remainder of the week:
1. Keep brainstorming
2. Make a rough outline
Hope to return with positive updates!

I love a bit of subtle foreshadowing! That moment where everything clicks can be so satisfying.
Hi all, Jason Tanner here. I'm an aspiring author, currently in the process of writing and publishing my novel The Will of the Wilds. Hoping you'll join me on this exciting and not at all terrifying journey!
