IMHO the best Yes album since 1977’s Going For The One.

Pre-dinner tunes …

Excellent 2019 debut album from the Berlin-based prog outfit. A varied offering, melodic and jazz-fused with excellent harmonies throughout.

The long awaited follow-up album, Fighting Dragons, is released in three days time (24th).

A strong argument for this being Floyd’s best. Certainly Roger’s most caustic and enduring lyrics, ironic given it was recorded against the backdrop of so much criticism against progressive music by the relatively short lived punk genre.

It appears that not everyone is satisfied with yesterday’s RSD purchase.

Buyers beware.

For me, the standout track of the album, performed perfectly here by John Mitchell

Record Store Day … vital support for independent retailers or merely an excuse for exorbitant prices and an opportunity for profiteers to market their newly acquired vinyl on resale platforms?

Interested to hear your views.

Work your way through there distinct pieces in this 18 track amalgamation of 5,6 and 7 👍

Absolutely agree re Roger becoming very repetitive, which Hipgnosis could never be accused of.

Judging by feedback I guess I’m the only one who prefers the original Hipgnosis cover, which for me is much more in keeping with the fresh new sound that came with the recorded album.

A fine body of work.

Much as I’ve criticised his apparent inability to compromise or collaborate, I’d be one of the first to acknowledge that his contribution to Genesis was unparalleled.

Roger Dean’s “Flight”, which was originally intended for the cover of Yes’ 1977 album Going For The One.

I Am Anonymous, the 2012 debut album by Adam Wakeman’s Headspace.

If you’re into early Dream Theater then maybe give this a listen if you haven’t already.

Tonight’s listening …

For me, the greatest live album ever, extended to 160 mins using the following sources …

- Three Sides Live (Vine, It/Watcher Of The Skies)

- Archive II (Entangled, Ripples)

- Before Riches bootleg (Inside & Out, Quiet Earth, 11th Earl, The Knife)

Benoit did have vocal issues but the band refused to give him time to resolve them, just as they did with Jon Anderson. Have a read of Benoit’s account of things - it’s not terribly complementary, not least of Chris Squire.
