There was a trailer footage in the IFI that was just Hugh Jackman against a blank wall talking about how great the cinema is, interspersed with footage of sheep that I presume are from the film. No idea what it's about

Because they don't want to win a bloodbath with the support of the left, they want to win by a narrow margin so they can say they have no mandate to implement left policies.

A graph showing the connection between GDP and infrastructure in the EU. Ireland a massive outlier - one of the richest, with the worst infrastructure

A graph showing the connection between GDP and infrastructure in the EU. Ireland a massive outlier - one of the richest, with the worst infrastructure

This graph should be on the front of newspapers.

econ 101 guy: capitalism isn't perfect but it's the only system that ever worked! without incentive there's no innovation!

capitalists: we're deliberately ending human civilization to protect the fossil fuel industry. we also hope to ban the research and development of competing energy technologies

Any government that isn't right now accelerating plans to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy is either:

a. Incompetent
b. In the pockets of people who'd rather they didn't
c. a & b

It’s profoundly ignorant to suggest that the Pope should be fighting crime on behalf of the Catholic Church. Anyone who was remotely familiar with Roman Catholicism would know that that’s what Daredevil is for

Remember when they wouldn't pass the Occupied Territories Bill because it would violate EU rules? Was Israel violating international law and committing a genocide an insufficiently "acute" situation? #Spéirgorm

The fact that the real fuel shortages and eye watering food inflation are still to come you really get the feeling that this government is in no way ready for it. Gonna be a long long summer

Was cycling through town last night and it really hit me how much damage this O'Connell St blockade has done to the authority of the Gardaí. It's pretty clear that law enforcement in Ireland is _entirely_ arbitrary and the idea that justice is delivered without fear or favour has been proven false.

So the guards finally got the finger out and the protesters folded like origami at the first sign they might suffer consequences

Why did we spend a week letting them run riot? This could have been resolved much earlier

Listen, I know that the cost of living is insane and our government are mostly absolutely useless. I know there are huge issues to solve.

But I also know that it is beyond crazy that we are all being held to ransom by like 40 dudes and their big trucks. All 5.5 million of us at the mercy of them.

Like this does seem like the sort of thing that should result in some serious jail time but apparently these guys have discovered that they can exploit the Enoch Burke glitch where you can do whatever you what if you are a middle aged white man with right wing politics

sick of these catholic converts showing up and saying "well I have a different interpretation of the scripture" no you don't. that's protestantism and a heresy. don't like it there's the (incredibly beautiful and heavily ornamented with precious metals) door

Not the first or the last to make this point, but the protests really lay bare who is considered a “worker” by many people. Lads who run plant hire companies ✅, but Deliveroo drivers and women doing the admin in offices are the liberal elite

one thing that’s clear, whether you’re right or left or whatever worldview, is that Irish people want a PROACTIVE government that DOES things, that TELLS them things, that PREPARES for things. the Irish government does absolutely none of this, it does as little as it can do, and nobody likes it.

Fuel protest on Dublin's O'Connell Street

Fuel protest on Dublin's O'Connell Street

Just spent 2 hours at the fuel protest at the bottom of O'Connell Street and any notion that its a farmers protest is misguided. It may have started out as one but it has become something else entirely, fueled by Facebook and Twitter's algorithms telling people what to get mad at.

I am so tired of these fascist fucks trying to take over my city. Fuck them and the tractors they rode in on and solidarity to the farm workers slaving for them back down on their farms.

The person, Christopher Duffy, being interviewed by Newstalk and other media organisations, is a well-known far right agitator and outright racist. His Facebook page regularly posts and shares racist content, conspiracy theories and worse.

He seems to be one of the main organisers behind all this.
