It's a really sad turn of events from people that really should know better.

But even pragmatically, those are absolute losing vibes. No one wants to be around a nasty, miserable bully.

Two-panel vertical comic. Top panel shows a serious anthropomorphic wolf in a dark, high-tech room wearing a VR headset and haptic gear, surrounded by glowing monitors displaying code, tracking data, and 3D models. Bottom panel shows the same wolf as a simplified, chibi-style avatar in a bright, snowy cartoon game world with penguin characters, labeled “xX_WolfQuestMaster69_Xx,” cheerfully saying “anyone wanna do quests :)”.

It's funny when a reply-rando drops into a conversation about AI coding with "So you're just going to abandon EVERY principle of software engineering for AI? Good luck buddy! LOL!"

And then the person they are chiding is Dr. Alex Programming, 40-year head of the School for Applied Computer Science.

A tall, wolf-like animal with an extremely long neck and legs stands in a grassy savanna at sunset, stretching upward toward a small rabbit perched on a tree branch.

I don't think your deranged response to using AI to sift through deranged responses is making the not-deranged point you think you are making.

Wanted to play the game Pharaoh (1999) on 15 y/o Thinkpad under Linux. But it doesn't support widescreen res by default.

The mod for widescreen needed a shader that couldn't compile on the iGPU because it was too old.

Claude Opus 4.7 wrote a CPU-compiling shader to insert there instead.

IT WORKED

A decayed dragon with skeletal and mummified features slumps at a stone workstation, its head lowered toward a glowing green CRT monitor displaying code. Cobwebs stretch across the keyboard and bones, while rows of similar dragon skeletons sit at ornate, ruined workstations in a vast, dim stone chamber.

A biomechanical human heart floats in deep space, rendered in metal, flesh, and cables with glowing red and blue lights. Multiple spectral duplicates trail through a vivid rainbow dispersion, creating a prism-like sequence against a dense star field.

Two-panel vertical meme of an anthropomorphic Shiba-like character in a black suit performing stand-up on a small stage with a microphone. In the top panel, she smiles under a warm spotlight as two speech bubbles read, “What do you call an optimized Godot project?” followed by “A Unity project.”

In the bottom panel, multiple tomatoes fly in from off-screen and splatter against her face, suit, and microphone as she recoils, eyes shut, with juice and fragments visible mid-impact.

Pixel-art game screen showing a framed certificate reading: “SCIENCE CERTIFICATE. This is to certify that Dr. Teefa has completed Simultree and is a real scientist.” Date: Apr 19, 1956. Delivered By: PIPAPOU. Two gloved hands hold the certificate against a retro UI background.

And to be absolutely fucking clear. These are not exaggerations. I've seen the most hashtag Peace Love Understanding Respect people I know say that firebombing houses of anyone supporting AI is justified.

The most worrying aspect is the number of people embracing political violence, the number of people embracing so-and-so "deserves" to be bullied / harassed / assaulted / raped / murdered.

These are not leftist principles. They make the world more fascist, no matter how supposedly noble the cause.

I re-opened a cultivation game I stopped playing a few months ago. The offline activity bonus wasn't bounded, leveling up the skill I was practicing last time.

My character is now *really* good a pushups. Better than God.

I think that is an egocentric, self-important position. Why would you know better than someone else what they want? Why *suppose* some more complicated mechanism than "This is what someone wants"?

I think that line of thinking overemphasizes the "What if people are actually way worse at deciding what they want to do with their lives." It's patronizing.

Wouldn't that preference simply be part of the algorithm?

ChatGPT is constantly providing material I want to read. And part of that is that I am always challenging myself and exploring new things.

This is a recreation of a very vivid DMT trip. Each strand of DNA was a ladder and the cost of a better world was simply to dream and to climb without fear.

A night sky filled with evenly banded, feather-like clouds stretches toward a bright full moon overhead. The undersides of every cloud layer glow with a continuous rainbow spectrum, while thin, translucent DNA helix shapes descend from dark openings between the bands.

In my experience, the 00's cell-phone industry felt hugely more extractive and predatory with long contracts and dubious upsells. Stores popped up and disappeared like the worst of every trendy new market opportunity.

Meanwhile, my AI subscription remains the most valuable service I've ever used.

Like, what does it say about anti-AI positions if such an immanent truth has to be sold so hard to its adherents?

4 days ago 16 1 0 0

I wish I was exaggerating this position. But even on Adam's show, he will occasionally recognize an objective fact that doesn't fit in with maximalist anti-AI dogma and he will get called a shill in hundreds of comments.

"Literally everyone agrees with me and we've excommunicated everyone that didn't" is a really bad place to start for any sort of sober, insightful analysis.

I think online anti-AI folks forget that there is a whole world of people that can’t simply be shouted and memed into having the supposedly correct position on AI.

Like. How many personal users are there between Anthropic, OpenAI, and the rest? Are those billions being “sold” something?

What does constantly maximized utilization of AI infrastructure, infrastructure that can’t be built fast enough for demand, indicate if not success?

I think there is a delusional spiral happening where all the signs of an incredibly popular and successful technology have been twisted to fit a narrative rather than updating any priors. AI isn’t successful therefore any signs of its success are actually signs of how unsuccessful it is.

Screaming at the devs but nodding my head at the same time so they know it is leftist and based.
