Edgy blue man group show?
At the kid's swim school, one of the Japanese mums is wearing a sweatshirt with "Do Epic Shit" written across it. Respect π
Just got an email offer from someone to build me a "Foot Delivery App". Might tell them to shoo off.
Reading about the origins of Kanji characters is quite fun. The η«Ά (competition/race) in η«ΆθΌͺ (keirin, as in the cycling event) has a couple of legs at the bottom, but the η« radical comes from a chisel-like tool or torture implement, apparently. Vibes nicely with cycling's "suffer" mentality!
How? why? But they're all the same! I'm going to need a stiff drink... πΆ
My work productivity has been awesome recently, all because my Strava feed on my usual browser, Edge, hasn't been working! Turns out it was the VueJS dev tools extension of all things causing it. Fixed now, back to 0.1x work mode π΄
Thanks kid's school, giving him a recorder and music to Puff the Magic Dragon ahead of the weekend...
One potential scenario for the Rugby World Cup 2027 sees Austalia meet England in a quarter final
LHS of the RWC2027 draw is shaping up as tough, though maybe not quite a tough as 2025. Meanwhile the RHS could see a nice run to the final for the winner of the potential QF between hosts Australia and England. But will Ireland(!) be waiting for them in a semi?
Hey Tokyo Python people! Quick reminder about our meet up on Thursday. It's at the usual time and place, Blink Roppongi from 6:30pm, but this month we're holding a coding challenge. All the details are at: www.meetup.com/tokyopython/...
One of the best revelations of 2025 has been the game Rummikub; my kids love it. The 8yo will often be dancing, and the 13yo will tolerate an hour with her father!
If you're looking for meet-ups, this site is a good starting, updated weekly on Mondays; japantech.info
PythonAsia 2026 is happening on March 21-23, 2026 at De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila, Philippines.
The call for proposals is already open - pretalx.com/python-asia-...
Beat the Monday blues by bike. This is the last bridge on the Shimanami Kaido cycle route.
En route to #PyConJp
Any runners coming to #PyConJp in Hiroshima? I'll be slow (knee op in June), but I've packed running kit.
Here's my kanji lesson for today. Half way up a hill in the middle of nowhere! Kinda obvs tho'!
Warm up game for the Wild Knights and North Canterbury, all the way from the mean streets of Kaiapoi.

G has finally retired from the peloton. What an amazing career, TdF winner, Olympic gold medallist. Inevitable ups and downs along the way, I still remember him being blown off his bike in an early TdF appearance! Thanks for the memories sir, all the best for the next phase.
On the way up the come back trail

I'm travelling from Japan to New Zealand via Sydney (1 day) next month. My NZ passport will be 4 months short of expiry. Should be ok right?
Thoroughly deserved!
