The games industry ATM is so weird.
Likely new consoles in 27/28 need new games, but it feels like studios are closing all the time.
I wonder if back-compat is what they will lean on. What will they do when they have fewer games for launch?
We need another Xbox 360 indie games/dev moment.

A separate team is working on this. The SN2 team is working on SN2.
We can do more than 1 thing at once. π
So glad you like! βΊοΈ
Super proud of this episode of Voices from Beyond, an audio drama which tells the story before the events of Subnautica 2... I think it's our best yet. π
Appreciate the opinion, but I look forward to the reviews and thoughts of our latest work when it comes out later this year.
I'm one of the OGs, since before it was a company. I've worked on all the games, and we still have a lot of the original SN1 dev team working at the studio on SN2. Please don't discount the hard work people have been doing until you get to see reviews or playthroughs.
Personal theory on RAMpocalypse:
Sk Hynix gets bought out by a bigger player who needs RAM, (their market cap is lowest of the big 3 manufacturers).
If Apple don't get into the DRAM themselves like they did CPUs, I suspect they might buy them to keep their prices and stock 'reasonable' for consumers
That's how we've always made our games. They end up better when we get feedback. The earlier the better. We're not changing how we work just because we have an owner now.
It's nice to get paid to work in games for sure. We have to sell them to keep our jobs and studio alive.
There is a reason we're not showing a lot. We don't want to spoil everything for the first Early Access release.
Being very selective.
Next dev vlog will be about base building.

Really proud of this one, and the team making Subnautica 2. More to come!
It wasn't. We have all the source files, and WIPs over months of work. It was hand-drawn and produced in Photoshop and After Effects, with final editing in Davinci Resolve. Sound work was by Power Up Audio.
A lot of people worked on this. And we have credited them all.
Hey, just FYI this was hand-painted by an actual artist in Photoshop (BOND production house). We have the original work-in-progress files, and original photoshop files to verify it was hand-crafted.
The thumbnail itself only had color enhancement (by me), in Photoshop.
I suspect worry about AI and free funds... but you would think now would be the time to invest in next-gen games, considering the workload needed for them.
It's so weird right? I wonder if AI is sucking dry all the spare cash atm, so no one is investing, despite the actual need.
The games industry is in such a dire, yet weird state.
The industry money is bigger than ever, the new consoles are likely only a few years away, and need for launch titles (which take years to make) is massive... we should be having a hiring and gaming boom.
So why are so many studios closing? π€

We're working with a SAG-AFTRA union casting director for all our voice cast currently. Once we're in EA, we might have more opportunities as we develop.

We'll be doing more interviews, Dev Blogs, and QnA sessions going forward on a regular basis.
And no, the map isn't that size. That's just the theoretical largest room Unreal Engine will give us.
