One of my strategies was to continue tai chi classes, which I started on my sabbatical. Well, I started up again last weekend, and it turns out the class is held in a room at a gym and there’s an actively used squash court that shares a wall with the room. Not relaxing.

Current status: Drawing heavily on the well of nervous-system calming techniques I developed during my sabbatical.
As noted in my previous post, the Fifth Circuit's decision goes against fundamental First Amendment principles and binding U.S. Supreme Court authority. We anticipate asking the Supreme Court to reverse this ruling and uphold the religious-freedom rights of children and parents.

I love this cold weather but now we have to figure out how to cover our garden beds tonight in case there’s frost.
Even better!
Needs a sofa for napping!
It also has Buck v. Bell! Korematsu is probably on the other side of the
mug that is not pictured.
Version 2.0 will have Dobbs, Bush v. Gore, and Trump v. Hawaii.
Bless and protect the brilliant researchers.
This is overwhelming news. A miracle.
A peer reviewed study shows a promising link between flu and shingles vaccines and a reduced risk of dementia. A heroin addict who cut off a raccoon’s penis for “further study” says these vaccines cause autism. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.
I would love some snow right now! It’s already so miserably hot here.
For any DC folks interested, I'm going to be speaking at St. John's Church on Lafayette Square this Sunday. My goal, if I can manage it, will be to give an overview of what's happened in the last year with immigration, putting it in historical context, and arguing why it should matter to all of us.
I hope he does the work to get himself in a better place mentally first!
Now, I just have to figure out what to do about my hair. Since I've returned to DC, it has been more horrendous than usual. I think it's the chlorine in the water supply at this time of year.
Fortunately, the temperature should get down to the 60s or 50s by evening, when the event starts, so I won't melt into a puddle while reading.
I googled what to wear for my poetry reading next weekend, and this 2016 article on Taylor Swift and the poetry aesthetic came up. Lol. I'm glad "chunky turtlenecks" are appropriate, as I'll probably wear my favorite black turtleneck sweater.
Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.
Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.
He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.
The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
I mean, you need a lawn mower with the summer coming up. It’s not your fault!
Holding the Light Stuart Kestenbaum for Kait Rhoads Gather up whatever is glittering in the gutter, whatever has tumbled in the waves or fallen in flames out of the sky, for it’s not only our hearts that are broken, but the heart of the world as well. Stitch it back together. Make a place where the day speaks to the night and the earth speaks to the sky. Whether we created God or God created us it all comes down to this: In our imperfect world we are meant to repair and stitch together what beauty there is, stitch it with compassion and wire. See how everything we have made gathers the light inside itself and overflows? A blessing.
Holding the Light by Stuart Kestenbaum. A call for resilience and repair in dark times. One of my favorites.
Holy run-on sentence!
The obscenity of a budget that cuts the forest service to fund the re-opening of Alcatraz as a prison.
Thank you!
We loved Ohana Sushi--a vegan take on sushi.
Thank you! I'm aiming to submit more poems for publication soon.
Thanks! I'm very nervous so keeping the actual date and location of the event a secret from everyone I know (except my husband).
Thanks! Very exciting! But I've never done a poetry reading before, so I am extremely nervous.
Some personal good news! One of my poems written on my sabbatical has been accepted for publication in a regional anthology, and I'm scheduled to perform a reading of it later this month.
This is how I always end up with a large pile of laundry because once it gets past one load, I need to wait to do it all at once!
