Another vanishingly rare post from me on here to say that my PhD thesis has now been uploaded to the Edinburgh Research Archive! Find it here: doi.org/10.7488/era/...
Images of the manga/anime had to be redacted for copyright reasons, but hopefully there is still something to take from it!

Thank you!!
Thank you!! 😊🥳
Thank you so much!
A little celebration the fact that I am now officially Dr Katherine! 🥳 Was recently able to submit the final version of my thesis (Fan Culture and Retranslation: The Sailor Moon Franchise). Hopefully it will soon be available to read (I'll post a link here when that happens) 😊
Makes sense from what I've heard haha

Just about there...
An anime adaptation I would love to see is Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle. This one I think you would need to keep the English setting but I would just love to see it animated in some form 💗
Regarding Ghibli adaptations, I really like When Marnie Was There. I feel the switch to the Japanese location works well here (not sure it did quite so well in Arietty and have never read Howl) and the story lends itself well to the Ghibli style, visually and in terms of characters.
It's so cool how I can read so many kanji but only know how to write very few of them.
I guess it's like how I can recognize many people's faces but wouldn't be able to picture most of them in my mind when they aren't right in front of me.
Psst! I am opening up to unagented children's book submissions *just for the month of October*! This is an exciting experiment. The email to send submissions to is OpenOctober@Sourcebooks.com. You can find out about what I'm looking for at www.manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/me...

I was looking at old magazines on Mandarake and now I'm kind of obsessed with these covers of "Teen Look" from the late '60s / early '70s.
The American Manga Awards is great starting point in bringing recognition to all the folks working on the localization, ESPECIALLY freelancers.
I truly believe there should be more awards & more spotlight on these folks.
The Eternal Edition of Sailor Moon is great, in terms of both translation and lettering. For something non-Sailor Moon, the recent translation of Urusei Yatsura is fun
So grateful to live in a world where technology has allowed me to see a photo of a Sailor Moon window display in 1996
Came across a really cool kanji for the first time today: 閂 (means bolt of a door)
Can't believe I've never seen this one before.
The value of dynamic lettering in manga translation is something that has become even more clear to me over the course of my PhD research on Sailor Moon retranslations. Happy Letterer Appreciation Day!
Thank you!😊
Thank you 🥳
Haven't posted here in a million years but thought I'd pop in and say that a couple of weeks ago I had my PhD viva and I passed with minor corrections!
