On this day in 1712, enslaved Africans in New York set fires and rose up.
Not because they were violent, but because they were human.
Freedom has never been given. It has always been fought for.
We remember. We honor. We continue.

58 years ago today. 8:05 PM Eastern. 7:05 PM in Memphis.
This was the moment Martin Luther King Jr. was pronounced dead.
Husband. Father. Pastor. Activist. Writer. Theologian.
Not a symbol. A life taken.
The call didnāt die that night.
It lives on in us.

Breathe.
You donāt have to be strong all the time.
Breath is a tool.
Inhale. Reset. Return.
We donāt just get to breathe
we must.
A pencil sketch of a person taking a mirror selfie, standing in a relaxed pose with one hip slightly out. Theyāre wearing a hoodie and socks, and appear to be pushing the hoodie outward with one hand, which exaggerates the shape of their midsection. A colorful cartoon crown sticker covers their eyes. Flame emojis are placed over the hips and upper thigh area for modesty and emphasis. On the right, a partial mirror reflection shows the same figure from the side. The drawing has a loose, in-progress feel on textured paper.
A detailed pencil drawing of a person taking a mirror selfie. They wear a baseball cap, glasses, a hoodie, and socks, standing with one hip slightly angled and holding a phone up to take the picture. The hoodie is pushed outward, creating an exaggerated curve at the midsection. A red chili pepper emoji is placed over the hip/thigh area for modesty. On the right, a mirror reflects the figure from the side. The scene includes a tiled floor and a small round table or stool in the foreground, with the drawing rendered in a warm, textured style.
Still working on him. Itās a little lazy because i only used two pencils lol. Heās not pregnant just using his other hand inside the hoodie to stretch it out heās in a dressing room. A pepper because itās spicy lol.

HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT A SIN IDC.
Work-in-progress pencil sketch of a personās face and upper torso, drawn at a slight diagonal angle. The figure wears a knit beanie and large over-ear headphones, with a calm, slightly smiling expression and relaxed eyes. The facial features are softly shaded, with attention to the lips, cheeks, and a bit of texture along the chin. The nose and eyes are lightly detailed, giving a gentle, expressive look. The figure appears to be wearing a simple shirt, with only the neckline and shoulders loosely outlined. Most of the detail is concentrated in the face, while the rest of the body remains minimal and unfinished. The lines are sketchy and organic, with visible pencil strokes and light cross-hatching that emphasize the piece as a work in progress. The overall style feels intimate and expressive, capturing mood more than precision. The background is blank, and the drawing is clearly in an early stage, inviting future layers such as ink, watercolor, pastel, or other mixed media.
Current work in progress. Pencil and ink rn⦠maybe it will be a watercolor. Or pastel? Or crayon? Ion know. What do yāall think!?!?!

This piece stayed unfinished until it didnāt.
Short. Thick. Confident. Bold. Sexy.
Sexy is for self. For ease. For showing up as we are.
Old-school watercolor. A body at home, taking up space unapologetically.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.
Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.
We are now in a full-blown constitutional crisis.
Thatās why following the arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort, I sent three separate letters demanding the dismissal of all charges, a congressional hearing, and a DOJ Inspector General investigation.
I wonāt stop reporting the truth. The First Amendment is the bedrock of our democracy, and Iāll continue to fight to protect it š¤š¾šŗšø

A watercolor-style portrait of a Black person with long locs and a calm, introspective expression, painted in warm orange and brown tones. The artwork is displayed on a wooden easel in a gallery-like space, with a pink ā@DATARTINGā Instagram-style graphic overlaid across the image.
A sketch born from remembering a beautiful stranger and the sadness I thought I saw behind their smile. Beauty and vulnerability arenāt oppositesāthey live together.

āJesus Savesā is a gauche painting that I did a few years ago. I have a limited number of magnets! If you are interested hmu. Jesus is a little sassy with eye shadow and the robe is designed to look kinda like a superhero cape.

Lol itās cool until you drop something and itās a long way down. And my back is always hurtingāand we donāt even want to talk about airplane travel. Plus tying your shoes? Also a long way down š
At Creating Change in DC, I took a quiet moment to make a quick sketch of James Baldwin for the ofrenda. Not my best work, but offered with deep gratitudeāan act of remembrance, resistance, and hope.

What we are seeing in Minnesota is what authoritarianism looks like in real time. Racism, dehumanization, and state-sanctioned violence are tearing at the foundation of this country.
We ALREADY have ICE concentration camps.
We are ALREADY so far gone.
Fuck the people who support this evil.
A president cannot defend a nation if he is not held accountable to its laws.

Illustration of a plus-size Black person posing confidently against a brick wall and doorway. They wear a bright red off-the-shoulder dress with a thigh-high slit, a wide-brim red hat with a bow, red sneakers, and dark sunglasses. One hand rests on their hip while the other touches the wall. The figure is drawn mostly in black-and-white pencil, with the red clothing and accessories in bold color, emphasizing body confidence, fashion, and joy. Large diagonal text reads āIG: DAT INC,ā with the artistās handle also written near the shoulder.
Reviewing some of my favorite #art from last year, and this one still feels right.
