It just soaks up the vinegar and spices it is pickled with. Watermelon rind doesn't have much of a flavor to begin with. The texture is crisp and crunchy. Think more like biting into a celery over biting into a potato chip when I say that.

Yeah? If something is being pickled, it's usually to eat the whole thing. Sometimes just the rinds are what is pickled.

It tastes good, but the pickling pulls the water from the pulp so it's not...... super watermelony. Still sweet to a degree, but also sour now. The rind is easier to eat when pickled.

Got the Gotchard novel today. Opened to a random page and learned Arumi has flashback dreams of Spanner saving her from a burning building only he very specifically drops his transformation just to pick her up and carry her through the flames.
