"Over an 18 year period, someone who cycles to work has nearly 50% less chance of dying from *anything* than someone who drives"...
including being knocked off by a motorist (based on UK census data). Passive travel is bad for your life expectancy and pollution inside the car is worse than outside.
Indeed, it would be nice if the ‘big’ parties gave us reasons to vote for them, not just to vote against the other party. A bit like they’re trying to blackmail us to vote for them 🙄
I’m all for wind turbines in royal parks 🤞

Newham Cyclists branded macro image with text: “cycling should be transport, not extreme sport!“ Backdrop depicts: on top, two women cycling in a relaxed way on a safe two-way cycle tracks surrounded by greenery; on the bottom, a woman wearing a helmet cycling at speed making a difficult right turn in front of a black car.
💁♀️ Sound radical? We don’t think so!
⚠️ Cycling isn't dangerous - but streets can be.
📢 That’s why our #StreetsForCycling campaign asks for 4 key routes in Newham to make a safe, connected cycle network.
📧 Agree with us? Email the next Mayor of Newham - takes 2 minutes action.lcc.org.uk/streets

Love to see that Westminster Labour has pledged to build a safe, connected cycle network. Similar to @wandsworthlabour.bsky.social they took control over a historically Conservative council four years ago.
Unlike Wandsworth Labour they understood their clear mandate for change and delivered 👏
155 people got killed or seriously injured in a year on Wandsworth’s roads, 97 of them on council roads and about half of them were cycling (latest TfL data 1/11/24-1/11/25)
Fixing the missing link would be great, but not nearly enough to tackle this level of traffic violence
I’d love to vote Labour if your manifesto offered anything to be excited for. Unfortunately it reads very much like the Conservative’s, so that’s not even a threat for progressive voters
While I think you’re doing a great job, overall the current Labour administration does not
Seven years today since @hammersmithbridge.bsky.social closed to motor traffic. Many happy returns to all who celebrate
One for @aledrj1.bsky.social Unfortunately his party’s manifesto categorically rules out new LTNs, ignoring the success of historic LTNs, in the borough, especially in Battersea
It won't come as a surprise to many, but good to see The Times pointing out that people actually like less traffic in local neighbourhoods.
It concludes that no big change is ever introduced without some initial opposition - so leaders should stick to their guns!

Extract from the Wandsworth Conservatives Manifesto 2026. Highlighted pledge “protect the core services that matter to residents - like weekly bin collections, street sweeping, fly-tipping removal and graffiti removal.”
The Wandsworth Conservatives Manifesto promises to protect a list of “core services“. Missing from this list libraries & playgrounds, which are a lifeline for local families
@aledrj1.bsky.social will you protect our libraries and playgrounds if elected?

🚴♀️Everyone should feel safe cycling to Wandsworth Town, but we know that’s currently not the case… But you can help change that: email Wandsworth council leadership candidates and call on them to pledge to expand our cycle network 👉 lcc.org.uk/streets
Group of horse riders on the street, riding towards Albert bridge
Albert bridge might be closed to cars, but it’s still open to horses
Maybe not a bad idea in the current oil crisis
This is part of my nursery run. Crossing the south circular is one of the trickiest bit, so I’d love to see the crossing improved 🤞
Issues arise when insufficient space is given. A narrow cycle lane next to a narrow footpath or a shared footpaths is often chosen as it does not reallocate space from drivers, but can create conflicts.
Pedestrians and cyclists harmonise, when they are given enough space 🚶♂️🚲💚
Rush hour in the city, many pedestrians crossing the road, I ride on. I just carefully ride through the crowd. If I was driving a car, I’d have slowed down the pedestrians a lot

Look what they’ve done to my favourite grim, industrial tunnel. They’ve made it all colourful and welcoming. WTH.
