Hell yes. There are restaurants that do awesome things with traditional British food.

I've never seen any of them do jellied eels. And rightly so.

An article in the Times today by Kathleen Stock in which she claims, incorrectly, that ‘when the gay rights cause first got going, the ideal was toleration’.

To correct the record:
The gay rights movement I was a part of in the 1980s and 90s was not aiming for ‘toleration’.
Mere acceptance was not enough.
How would that help the isolated queer kid?
No. We wanted that child to know they would be loved and celebrated just as they were.

What good would it have done if the civil servants hadn't "hidden" the vetting failure? Would the outcome differ?

Phillipson appointed Mary-Ann Stephenson as EHRC chair *despite* not one but two select committes warning her not to!

This government installs all the wrong people because it wants to.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

A copy of the tabletop RPG Defy the Gods by Chrys Sellers, on maroon fabric. The book is surtitled 'Queer Sword and Sorcery' and the cover features a variety of heroes and heroines battling a vast bearded statue with its hand outstretxhed as if throwing the two clay coloured cuneiform dice sitting on top of the book.

I Kickstarted Defy the Gods ages ago - delighted it's arrived. Ancient Near East themed ttRPG with overtly queer punky themes and custom cuneiform dice. Might just make a cup of tea and dive in...

I’m thrilled at the thought of the SF novel covers that are going to riff on this. It’s an incredible image that represents an amazing knot of concepts

Deep into a thread involving lots of people, including @stephenkb.bsky.social, I've once more been reminded of that lib dem conference debate where the GCs all got up and accused the queers of being funded by Stonewall because the idea people might push a policy without funding was so alien to them

A thorough and informative thread.

Almost every "excessively punished because of woke" story turns out this way (see also every "fired for not using pronouns" story ever).

Oh look. The thing that was predicted is happening, with a huge thick underline under my assertion about the hubris of devs believing they could code around the fundamentals of Garbage In, Garbage Out.

The models are ingesting AI garbage, and spitting out more AI garbage.

This is a valid point: whenever you see this sort of high-pressure sales tactic turned on a technology, you can be CERTAIN that it's a fake—actually useful new tech sells itself!

And don't underestimate the effectiveness of FOMO as a tool in the hands of a con artist.

Counterpoint: I use em dashes with abandon and will not let "AI" steal them from me. I was overusing them first and will continue to do so long after "AI" is a crater in our financial system, or our merciless overlords, or both

EHRC update ‘does not apply to workplaces’, Bridget Phillipson says Apr 14 Written by PinkNews Reporter

I have just had to read the latest iteration of PinkNews's 'journalism', an AI slop mash-up of several unrelated stories which doesn't make any sense.

Turns out that journalism needs reporters after all! Here's a thread on just how terrible the piece is 👇

AI is profoundly unpopular. A recent NBC News poll found that among 18-34 year-olds, AI's net favorability rating is -44. *Negative 44*. Those are basically serial killer numbers. It's not much better among women 18-49. (Men over 50 and upper class are the only ones who like AI, and just barely.)
