In our most recent #FirstMondaysWebinar, Corrie Hunt of Hart Research breaks down how to combat the Right's "Us vs. Them" strategy of othering, which is used to pit Americans against each other.
Some research-backed ways to create counter-narratives ⬇️
PSG Consulting, @ifpg.bsky.social & Hart Research have been engaged in a multi-phase research project to better understand how othering works, why it’s so effective and, most recently, what narratives can counter it writ large.

Why do “us vs. them” narratives work so well — and how do we push back without playing “whack a mole?”
During Monday's #FirstMondaysWebinar, we explored new research on “othering” — one of the Right’s most powerful strategies for pitting Americans against each other and gaining power.

Geoff Garin, Corrie Hunt and London Wagner of Hart Research will share findings from an online survey of 2,074 registered voters nationwide to determine how to undercut othering. Together, we will tackle the question: How do we weaken this approach writ large? us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
TODAY: Join us at 12pm ET for the next PSG Consulting #FirstMondaysWebinar, which will share the latest work by @ifpg.bsky.social on the "Us vs. Them" strategy of othering, and how it is being used to pit Americans against each other as a path to power.

Other key takeaways:
— Total ad spend hit $238.4M as of March — up 34% in 1 month
— GOP leads overall spending: $149.4M vs. $89M for Dems
— While Dems lead in House spending, GOP leads in Senate & Gubernatorial spending
— $220M taxpayer dollars spent on DHS ads

This issue dives deep into the DHS’s taxpayer-funded ad campaign.
Rather than targeted placements in border areas, spending is concentrated in major metro markets and broad-reach channels — more consistent with mass visibility and persuasion than a targeted public information effort.
New Issue: Need to Know — Who’s in Your Media Market
As the 2026 cycle accelerates, "Need to Know" helps make sense of the full advertising environment voters are experiencing — not just within individual races, but across entire media markets.
Happening Monday! Register for PSG Consulting’s next #FirstMondaysWebinar, “No More Whack A Mole,” happening April 13 at 12pm ET.

In 2024, PSG Consulting and IFPG also worked with Hart Research to survey these voters, outlining the demographic and attitudinal profile of this elusive voting bloc.

Despite their historically outsized role in elections, this group has been hard to model and reach. A model developed by PSG Consulting and @ifpg.bsky.social, in partnership with TargetSmart, helps identify and target these voters more precisely. innovatingforpublicgood.org/research-and... ⬇️
A new CNN poll finds that ~25% of the public views both political parties negatively. Notably, these “double haters” favor Democrats in the upcoming midterms by 31 points — driven more by opposition to the GOP than enthusiasm for Democrats. www.cnn.com/2026/04/03/p... ⬇️
PSG Consulting's newsletter — Need to Know: Who's In Your Media Market — shows ~95% of early advertising in House races is coming from outside groups — not campaigns, with 1–2 groups shaping almost all of the messaging in some races.

When training data leans in one direction — especially when far-right sources or outlets like The Daily Caller are more active in licensing content — it can shape what AI reflects back to users.

“Garbage in, garbage out.”
I recently spoke w/ @beyer.house.gov on new research from PSG Consulting on ideological bias in AI training data, and why what goes in ultimately shapes what comes out.
Looking at the data, we see a concerning “inverse funnel:” far-Right sites are ~80% accessible to AI crawlers, compared to >40% of center-Left sites. At the same time, low-factual accuracy sites are ~90% accessible, while high-factual sites fall below 50%. www.psgconsulting.com/research-pub...
I recently spoke with @beyer.house.gov on new research from PSG Consulting, @ifpg.bsky.social and Dewey Square Group examining ideological bias in LLM training data.
As Congressman Beyer puts it: "You only have to go as far as Grok to see ideological bias smack us in the face."

New PSG Consulting research found that AI training data is structurally skewed. Far-right sites are ~80% accessible to AI crawlers vs <40% for center-left outlets. “Very low” factual sources are ~90% accessible, vs <50% for high-quality sources.

As we prepare for the 2026 midterms, who ensures access to reliable information?
In our #FirstMondaysWebinar, @jgo4justice.bsky.social warns: while AI companies draw trillions in investment, the burden of navigating misinformation is falling on the public.

The SAVE Act presumes Americans are cheaters & dishonest. Yet officials trust Americans to pay their taxes under a system that presumes honesty, with guardrails & checkpoints—just like voting. So why distrust tax-paying citizens when it comes to participating in our democracy?

Regulations do not stop innovation, they are designed to protect the public and establish reasonable guardrails. They want free rein to do whatever they want to increase profits, even at the expense of our democracy and citizens' wellbeing.

These and other tech companies are pouring millions into super PACs and independent expenditures to defeat candidates who want to regulate them. 🧵⬇️
Today, Meta and YouTube tech bros were finally held accountable. According to the court, their products are addictive and harmful to users mental health. That's the good news. The bad news — the fines were the equivalent of a slap on the wrist. 🧵⬇️
But it’s not just what voters see — it’s who is behind the buys.
AI giants have already contributed $185M+ to 2026 races. Of the 20 candidates in TX and NC primaries who received AI funds, including many in competitive, open primaries, only one lost.

To say Donald Trump has a military strategy is misleading. He has no strategy. He has whims that come in and out of his head.
