Love this for the #Canes and Seth Jarvis. But really love this for everybody who’s about to figure out how electric this kid is.

3. I wonder what type of impact this whole Rantanen/trade deadline scenario is having on the team. How do you play with a guy that might not want to be there and cost your team Necas in return. I’ll be glad when this saga is over and we have some finality to our roster going forward

2. Toronto might have put it in neutral after the 1st period but the Canes players did respond nicely after that horrendous start. Just too big of a hole to climb out of

2/22 FINAL

TOR 6, CAR 3

1. Obviously you can’t start that way against a playoff team like Toronto. Everyone from the net out was coasting. All the 4 Nations guys were a step behind on both sides but TOR’s depth came through big early.

Absolutely disastrous start back off the break for the Canes. 3-0 Leafs.

3. I still want to see more out of Svech. He’s not a $7.5 million difference maker out there. Even given a shot with only 11 forwards he’s not as visible as you’d like a player of his caliber to be

2. Canes won the majority of the board battles which resulting in chances and goals. Both of Aho’s goals were the result of a won battle and hustle up the ice.

2/9 FINAL

CAR 7, UTH 3

1. It was a late game against Arizona before an All-Star break last year that turned the season around for the team and Orlov in particular. I got the same vibe here but sub in Burns. He’d been playing better of late but that was his best in a while!

This helps soothe the loss last night. I’m actually proud of this one

3. I get that the team is going through an illness but it’s happened before in the NHL and will happen again and teams find a way to win. You’re a professional, other people show up to work and are expected to perform just fine, you should too.

2. It’s magnified on this anemic power play. Is Jeff Daniels in charge of the offense therefore the power play? If so, I don’t know what his credentials would be to keep a job while still performing this poorly.

2/6 FINAL

MIN 2, CAR 1

1. Take out the final few minutes of 6-on-5 and you have a pretty vanilla effort. Vanilla. Plain. Boring. There’s no creativity or urgency in zone entries, zone exits, net drive, etc.

Orlov owes Freddie a steak dinner after that poor effort

3. The top line looks good. Jackson Blake continues to hold his own on that line and they generated a ton of scoring chances. Keep working at it and keep refining it.

2a. Having a good power play in the playoffs doesn’t just add scoring opportunities. It makes teams play more cautious against you in fear of taking a penalty. I think this is a big advantage that the Florida Panthers use.

2. Losing your power play goal then getting sniped on the power play is the turning point. The hurricanes have to figure out something with this power play. It’s not only not dangerous anymore, but somewhat pathetic at times.

2/4 FINAL

WIN 3, CAR 0

1. I’m not sure what goalie interference is anymore. Apparently anytime you get scored on. You should just throw your hands up and look at the wrath to complain because that seems to work against us a lot.

3. PK has to play with more focus. With Freddie back and playing well, Pyotr has to remain solid to become an option come playoff time. Too many mental mistakes and poor positioning in that game

2. I don’t care who is in your roster, playing with 11 forwards (including a rookie making his NHL debut and only getting 6 minutes) meant everyone had to step it up. That’s an impressive effort from a roster who’s still gelling together.

1/30 FINAL

CAR 3, CHI 2

1. How many times have we seen that game happen against us? An even-ish matchup that ultimately is won because the other team’s star power comes through. Nice to be on the winning side of one of those.

3. This is and always will be a Freddie Andersen fan account. I know the score seems lopsided, but the canes win that game because of him keeping it a 1-0 lead throughout the second period until we can break it open.

2. Svech can learn from a guy like Rantanan. How to use your frame and strength to dominate a game. I think this is a move that helps the team in the short term and really helps build around your current players in the long-term.

1/28 FINAL

NYR 0, CAR 4

1. The impact of having your GM make a move like this goes beyond adding two great talents to your lineup. It’s a vote of confidence to the entire team that you believe in them. I love making a move early to give the guys time to gel too. Passing is already getting there.

Unfortunately unable to provide my thoughts for the past two games and a few upcoming as I’m in Minnesota to compete in the US Pond Hockey Tournament! Best I can do is tell you that Utah looked fantastic against the Wild last night
