At the root of all our problems stands one travesty: politicians’ surrender to the super-rich | George Monbiot There are many excuses for failing to tax the ultra-wealthy. The truth is that governments don’t tackle the problem because they don’t want to, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

The brilliant Klara Gurzo presenting her work on inequalities and health. There are two large screens behind Klara with the title of social mobility. The slide so asks the question as to how social mobility can be promoted including intergenerational social mobility, contributing to or constraining the health gradient and stagnation or even decline. Klara is a woman with dark hair and wearing a dark professional suit. She stands behind a lectern and presents with an over ear microphone

Decriminalization worked. B.C. killed it anyway ⋆ The Breach The province’s drug decriminalization experiment lowered arrests and reduced harm—but it failed a different political test

B.C. cancelled its drug decriminalization pilot, saying it hadn’t “delivered the results” they wanted.

Its results: fewer drug users arrested and traumatized by cops.

Hey Sacramento PD, stop stealing all of my patients stuff - including their medications - and throwing it away.

I'm really sick and tired of our folks not being able to find them because of sweeps and then when we do, they haven't had their medications in weeks because y'all threw them away.

An important story from N. Ireland. UK Gov is choosing not to fund NI according to need.

Almost 10 x times as many people died on hospital waiting lists in 3 yrs in the North vs 30 yrs of conflict.

Essentially, I think that LLM-generated dialogue only makes sense if you believe that the product of writing is words.

But the product of writing isn't words, any more than the product of justice is prisoners, or the product of love is weddings. The product of writing is meaning.

We are not running out of ideas, I just wrote an entire PhD dissertation full of novel ideas and suggestions for what to do about many social problems. You're just not listening to experts because our ideas are inconvenient for capitalism.
