Thank you for bearing witness and being so brave and honest. Hoping I will have the courage to do the same but dreading such a situation. We need your witness to continue to be aware of what's happening.
I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.
Carla Hayden had big plans, and executed on them. Opening the Library to the public in meaningful ways, especially young people. We salute you, Dr. Hayden.

Carla Hayden was president of the @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social when ours was one of few organized voices opposed to the USA PATRIOT Act.
Librarians have been fired all across the federal government, gutting not just ours but the world’s intellectual infrastructure. Devastating.
President Trump fired our nation’s Librarian, Dr. Carla Hayden, by email at 6:56pm tonight, taking his assault on America’s libraries to a new level. Over the course of her tenure, Dr. Hayden brought the Library of Congress to the people, with initiatives that reached into rural communities and made the Library accessible to all Americans, in person and online. While President Trump wants to ban books and tell Americans what to read – or not to read at all, Dr. Hayden has devoted her career to making reading and the pursuit of knowledge available to everyone. Be like Dr. Hayden.
BREAKING: President Trump just fired our nation's Librarian. My statement here:

Hey kiddo, When stars are scattered, and the March series are some of my favorites.
Ohio libraries have been strong and enjoyed bipartisan support for decades. Our state librarian, with whom I went to college, explains to Ohioans what's at stake for us with the attacks on the IMLS 📚 #skybrarians
ALA response to White House assault on IMLS To dismiss the mission of an agency that advances opportunity and learning is to dismiss the aspirations and everyday needs of millions of Americans. And those who will feel that loss most keenly live in rural communities. As seedbeds of literacy and innovation, our nation’s 125,000 public, school, academic and special libraries deserve more, not less support. Libraries translate 0.003% of the federal budget into programs and services used by more than 1.2 billion people every year. President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders.

Following a devastating year of violence against children, our deepest hope is that these 40 outstanding international titles, and the words within them, can inspire bridges of understanding and peace.
The library and the post office are the only two systems we have that circulate things widely and to everyone, no matter who they are or what they believe. The library is the only one that, for now, is not forced to pay for itself at point of sale. Attacks on IMLS are attacks on every one of us.
This I can do.
"Any time you're given two choices, be suspicious." A woman once told me this, and it's always proved as wise as she is. Two choices betrays binary thinking: good vs evil, us vs them. Binary choices are usually illusions. There are infinite choices, infinite possibilities.
Building bridges of understanding: Children’s books about Ukraine & by Ukranian creators
This booklist was created to help librarians and educators find books by and about Ukraine easily -- books currently in print and available for purchase in the US. Today more than ever we need books to help…
