As the IFC reviews its Sustainability Framework, it has a crucial opportunity to strengthen protections for people & the planet.

This must include stronger safeguards, proper consultation, & more transparency on investments.

Too often, IMF programmes reinforce fossil fuel dependence and shrink fiscal space for climate action.

As the Fund reviews its Conditionalities and Programme Design, it must align with countries’ climate goals.

As the World Bank Group considers merging its accountability mechanisms, it must strengthen access to remedy, not weaken it.

Communities harmed by projects from #Nepal to the #Philippines are still waiting for justice.

Without safeguards & consent, geothermal energy ends up being a false solution to the climate crisis, for which local communities pay the price.

We urge the World Bank Group to put people and nature first for a truly #JustTransition!

Looking at #geothermal projects across Indonesia, the study reveals that development banks' financing models have too often sidelined local people’s needs in favour of pulling in private investment.

Impacts include water scarcity, job losses, toxic pollution - all felt most keenly by women.

From mining to farming, IFC projects affect millions of people.
We need strong safeguards to protect their rights.

From mining to farming, IFC projects affect millions of people. We need strong safeguards to protect their rights.

Over the years, the International Finance Corporation's investments have left a troubling trail of harms and human rights abuses in their wake.

Its safeguards have not always been strong or respected enough to protect communities.

It's time the World Bank Group stopped backing #FossilGas & #FalseSolutions.

Public finance should support renewable energy systems that expand access & protect communities, not lock countries into volatile energy pathways.

Blog: IFI gas financing is too risky a bet for Africa IFI gas financing is too risky a bet for Africa. Despite backing from the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund, renewables are emerging as the continent’s safer and more cost-effective energy future.

The World Bank & African Dev. Bank energy access initiative for Africa, #Mission300, needs to break free from gas.

Many of the M300 country compacts still rely on #FossilGas, despite evidence of the economic and environmental risks.

Climate change is a threat to macroeconomic stability, the very mandate of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The case of Argentina is an example of how the IMF too often prioritises short-term wins over long-term resilience, to the detriment of people and the planet.

What needs to change?🧵
