I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA
10 YEAR OLD ME IS LOSING HER MIND (a thread 🧵)

Trump: "We've got a lot of stupid people in this country running things."
Trump: It looks like it’s about $3.1 billion
Powell: I’m not aware of that.
Trump: It just came out
Powell: You just added in a third building
Trump: It’s a building that’s being built
Powell: It was built five years ago.
And there it is. The Minnesota assassin who shot Democratic lawmakers “voted for Donald Trump and was a strong Trump supporter,” according to his best friend.

Trump, asked about China’s denial of trade talks:
“Well, they had a meeting this morning.”
Reporter: “Who's they?”
Trump: “I can't tell you. It doesn't matter who ‘they’ is.”

🔥 @ninajankowicz.com: "Mr Taibbi said when he was first searching through the so-called Twitter files he didn't know what he was looking at. Well, he still doesn't. Everything looks like a conspiracy when you don't know how anything works."
Stephen Miller is on Fox News and it's not going great
The SEC's position at the moment is "Crypto tokens are unregistered securities and they're (almost) all illegal" and they've pursued that position quite extensively in court.
For example, Kraken, the crypto exchange blanketing Canadian TV with ads, reached a $30M settlement with the SEC last year & agreed to shut down part of its operation in the US. (And the SEC is still suing it to try to shut down more of its business.) www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
This is basically what the SEC has done under Biden. The SEC has gone after tons of companies for tons of violations in recent years, but nobody reads the news any more so nobody knows that it happened.
Did you know that the SEC and Justice Department rolled out a major crackdown on cryptocurrency exchanges and various related frauds over the past few years? People in the crypto industry know, which is why they all lined up behind Trump.
i'm a huge robby fan but no doubt he's sucked epically this year. And looking at today's practice lines (esp with reaves out) maybe for the first time since robby's been here i don't see a guy that i'm upset is playing over him.
i still wouldn't toss him away tho. trade for some value sure.
The rhetorical slight of hand that made such revolutionaries come across as "conservatives" is that the presented themselves as "Christian patriots," just unmarked "real Americans" trying to defend "traditional America" from "the forces seeking to destroy it."
SCOOP: The Heritage Foundation’s 'Project Esther,' a conservative plan to counter antisemitism, sees the problem as one in which a handful of “masterminds” including Jews like George Soros are seeking to “dismantle Western democracies, values and culture,” according to internal Heritage documents.
Podcast: Did Trump’s win mark the end of identity politics (with Sam Harris).
I have not listened to this podcast and I’m sure how to read the question mark but, for my part, I don’t think there has been an American politician since George C. Wallace who has built an appeal around identity politics more than Trump.
Screenshot of transcript excerpts from the jury process for Martin Shkreli's 2017 fraud trial. Juror no. 10: The only thing I’d be impartial about is what prison this guy goes to. The court: Okay. We will excuse you. Juror 28, do you need to be heard? Juror no. 28: I don’t like this person at all. I just can’t understand why he would be so stupid as to take an antibiotic which H.I.V. people need and jack it up five thousand percent. I would honestly, like, seriously like to go over there — The court: Sir, thank you. Juror no. 28: Is he stupid or greedy? I can’t understand. The court: We will excuse you. Juror 41, are you coming up? Juror no. 41: I was looking yesterday in the newspaper and I saw the defendant. There was something about him. I can’t be fair. There was something that didn’t look right. The court: All right. I’m going to excuse you. Juror Number 59, come on up. Juror no. 59: Your Honor, totally he is guilty and in no way can I let him slide out of anything because — The court: Okay. Is that your attitude toward anyone charged with a crime who has not been proven guilty? Juror no. 59: It’s my attitude toward his entire demeanor, what he has done to people. The court: All right. We are going to excuse you, sir. Juror no. 59: And he disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan.
For some random reason I can't put my finger on, I've been thinking a lot lately about the jurors in the Martin Shkreli trial harpers.org/archive/2017...
I have a massive trade deficit with my local beer shop, so I am going to invade it.
CNN's Clarissa Ward is now broadcasting live from Damascus, Syria. She says "the moment is just utterly surreal."
NEW: Russian state media reporting that former Syrian president Assad and his family are being given refuge in Moscow.
Putin giving safe harbour to one of his own.
Caitlin Johnstone: Assad Is Out, Woke Al-Qaeda Is In Only a matter of time before we start seeing former ISIS and al-Qaeda members chatting it up on liberal western talk shows with their preferred gender pronouns listed next to their names.
you can't even have assad anymore, because of woke al-qaeda
Yep
Out best chance for oversight in the next two years is regimes falling.
Just as you cannot understand the growth of Hamas without understanding the Israeli occupation you cannot understand why secular Syrians were cheering on the HTS offensive against the Assad regime. You don’t have to ‘like’ any of the actors to understand why they exist.
Again, please grow up.
Yes person on the internet Syrians are aware that everything isn’t perfect and that there are challenges ahead. I think they didn’t need you to tell them that given that it’s been 5 decades of tyranny and no country ever emerged from tyranny without challenges ahead.
The thing about the "we can't live in an echo chamber" dudes is that none of them has offered a single new opinion in ten fucking years. They're not interested in diversity of thought, they just want people to be forced to listen to their tired bullshit.
Have you noticed that when the fascists escape to platforms like Gab, nobody follows them there? But when we all come here the nazis try to crash the party?
Let me tell you a story – one of the more haunting I’ve seen in 20 years of journalism. It’s about greed, death and denial. It took two years to unravel one doctor’s myth, a hospital’s complicity in creating it, and a documented trail of suspicious deaths…🧵
