Hey, @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social you literally GOT this story from me. I broke it days ago on Bluesky and then on my own website, PubliCola. THE POST WAS DOWN BY YESTERDAY. I RAN INTO YOUR REPORTER WHO THANKED ME FOR BREAKING THIS NEWS today. Give my independent outlet credit immediately.

That Landmarks Board is fucking insane. They've lost the plot. Shame isn't likely a strong enough word, but I agree with you.
Everything, everyday feels like a scam or grift now: Federal government, emails/texts/calls, phishing, AI, squatters, online purchases, health care, insurance, permitting building projects (extortion), charities…that’s just the stuff I deal with. It’s a constant firehose of people scamming us.
War Pigs is a band made up of a 7th grader, his 3rd grade brother, and their dad on bass, and it rules. Check out "No Fascists," "Stormtrooper," and "Banned Books." The kids are alright!

Thank you!
The purpose of this administration is to impoverish and piss off the middle and lower classes in every conceivable way possible.
I was backpacking with friends at Ancient Lakes over the weekend! Right there.
The currently escalating tech backlash must be put in the context of:
“people have been listening to the most insufferable techbros in the world gleefully threaten everyone else with mass unemployment for over 6 years, and they’re sick of their shit”
every urbanist who shared this is tacitly acknowledging they get horny about bollards and people who care about bollards, perhaps it even emboldened them to have some frank talks
Laugh/Cry
Back to the simple natural order of things…….. not human arrogance based on destruction of our water, air, environment for profit…… for the 1%

Unfunded inclusionary zoning is bad policy that worsens the problem it’s supposed to help fix.
It trades broad housing affordability for a handful of means tested homes for lottery winners that make planners and policy makers feel good about themselves.
Abolish it entirely, everywhere, now.
Seattle's MHA is unfunded IZ. It block new homes until after prices rise, putting an invisible tax on tenants in older buildings.
It would be illegal under the funded IZ bill just passed by Oregon.
The city should fund it or ax it permanently.

Never in my life did I think I'd trust Iranian state media more than the U.S. government, but with this criminal regime I don't trust the U.S. Amazing times.

With the Trump administration switching into anti-Catholic overdrive this week, I wrote about a time a hundred years ago when Catholic students from Notre Dame beat the shit out of the Klan. A feel good story for the ages. dansinker.com/posts/2026-0...
Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train. "If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

ICE is not about immigration.
ICE is about normalizing a paramilitary force on peaceful streets.
Abolish ICE.
Same. It's so embarrassing to see the stats. And maybe it's because we're in the PNW and have a much higher proportion of left folks?
1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

1. Cars should have physical buttons, not screens.
2. Having 476 streaming apps instead of cable or regular TV is a big step backwards.
3. Oh, and the Apple watch is terrible (and I'm an Apple fanboi!). I returned mine after 3 days and bought a Garmin that I use daily and charge every 7-10 days.
Neighborhood scale upzonings increased housing production in many NYC neighborhoods
Upzoned block faces saw significant increases in housing unit permits in Philadelphia
How do upzonings impact housing supply?
In brand-new research published today @urbaninstitute.bsky.social, we show that big upzonings in New York City & Philadelphia had large, statistically significant effects on supply & permitting with several years of reforms.

burgers should be wider, not taller imo
I'm so excited this program is back in full, incl. Friday nights and extended hours. It's a huge win for the people. The previous admin's deference to drivers was infuriating, to put it mildly. Riding through here on a bicycle weekend is such a joyous experience.

I was just ranting about this last night. Forcing AI on google search filled me with anger. It was fine before and I do not want wasteful AI forced on me.
In case anyone is still confused
As a Gen-X white guy I find this so embarrassing and infuriating for us. There were a lot of jerky, entitled, authoritarian, sexist, abusive guys in our generation and it served them well and they were rewarded for it. I always *bristled* at these types. And now they’re MAGA 🤮
I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."
