The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

interior page of a chapter entitled "Color." it begins with an Alabama Shakes line from "Sound and Color": "A new world hangs / outside the window / Beautiful and strange / It must be I've fallen awake / I must be."

the paragraph reads:

"'Are you weird?' asks Elizabeth when Nick picks her up en route to Antonio Bay in the opening sequences of The Fog. When Nick averrs that he is indeed weird, Elizabeth is relieved: she isn't afraid of encountering predators or perverts, merely of being bored by normies. "Weird" as flavor, texture, and color pervades Carpenter films, evidenced in The Fog as the signature weather event. Fog along the California coast isn't unusual; the acid-green tinge of this fog is, broadcasting its status as harbinger and invader as clearly as DJ Stevie broadcasts the fog's movements across Antonio Bay in real time."

In the Age of Apocalypse Wolverine is missing a hand because he got in a fight with Cyclops who is therefore missing an eye. For whatever reason, they are in love in every universe.

Many of the things that annoy people about Jean Grey I think are fun, such as her constantly trolling Scott, or being the least maternal, least pregnant mom of all time.

Yes, we were all taking it easy at the event. I was relaxing so hard you didn't notice that I did all the dishes and wrote a blog about it while we were taking it easy.

I'm a life-long hater of this and I think it's ruined like half of all trailers for 10-15 years straight. If you are like me and want trailers to be creative and interesting in their own right, I know we're a minority of people who care but we are so correct about this.

I love events but the most important thing is that I have a task to perform while I am at them. I know some people like to hang out and take it easy. I aspire, but it's not me. I will need to have a camera or be on a panel or sweeping the floor or something.

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief.

The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."

The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.

Like "omg yes, you've really cracked the case, kicking the poorest people among us is absolutely the best way to fight a capitalist system!" Obviously people deserve a living wage and if it's unfortunately left to me to make that choice with a tip, I will choose to do my part.

Isn't it always the way. "Art should be free!" = "I'm a person who could definitely afford to pay for it."

We're in an unjust war and there's a group of far right extremists running the country. You need to work WITH me to dismantle that, not criticize me for trying to stay alive. How are creators both locked out of any resources under capitalism AND exclusively responsible for dismantling it?

1 day ago 18 1 1 0

As it stands when you try to whittle down a cost for creative work, which I already do mostly sliding scale, the line between you and my most exploitative bosses really starts to fade. So how is it that you get to be actively exploitative here, but fixing capitalism remains my problem exclusively?

1 day ago 42 8 1 0

I get really irritated when someone questions the cost of creative work. Oh, you hate capitalism? Me too. Talk to my landlord about it. Talk to a politician. Talk to your boss. Talk to literally anyone in power. Artists can't fix capitalism for you on top of everything else we have to do.

Why does she always look like she's up to something? I'll be doing photos tomorrow for the Milwaukee Zine Fest. I took this photo of myself earlier today so the photos have already begun. Some would say they never stopped...
