Workbenchcon will be the first woodworking convention I’m attending in almost 20 years. I barely knew what I was doing back then. A little more skilled and confident now. Looking forward to learning and meeting the folks that inspire me.

I recently acquired an old Craftsman No 78 Rebate Plane. Blade was in bad shape—wasn’t square, chipped on one end and severely tapered on the other. Ended up grinding away 1/16 in. of material w a belt sander/disc. Then I noticed the backside wasn’t even flat. After 6 hours of this, finally usable.

Progress comes in slow, imperceptible increments. I often wonder if I’m getting any better at woodworking. And then I come back to building something I’ve made many times in the past. And I can tell that this is the best cutting board I’ve made.

I had to embiggen my shooting board to accommodate 18 inch long stock because, for the life of me, I’m still not at a skill level where I can plane freehand and maintain a 90° edge.

A little more sanding and applying of finish, and my album stands are done.

Didn’t feel like it, but I made some progress today. I made another version of the box joint jig to allow for ¼ inch joints, which allowed me to put together the sides of a box I’m making with possibly the cleanest finger joints I’ve done yet.

A long process. Spent a day making Chestnut Shibukawani (stewed with inner skin). Made Meringues. Made chestnut paste. And came together tonight as a Mont Blanc.
