If you're going to subsidise anything, why not electric charging infrastructure? Help people break their fossil fuel dependence for good

The photo of earthrise from the moon, showing the earth's blue marble at gibbous, and a quote from Edgar Mitchell, one of the Apollo 14 crew. Original is in caps, growing from about 12 point to about 35 point over the course of the five paragraphs.

"YOU DEVELOP AN INSTANT GLOBAL CONSCIOUSNESS, A PEOPLE ORIENTATION, AN INTENSE DISSATISFACTION WITH THE STATE OF THE WORLD, AND A COMPULSION TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

FROM OUT THERE ON THE MOON, INTERNATIONAL POLITICS LOOK SO PETTY.

YOU WANT TO GRAB A POLITICIAN BY THE SCRUFF OF THE NECK AND DRAG HIM A QUARTER OF A MILLION MILES OUT AND SAY

'LOOK AT THAT, YOU SON OF A BITCH!'"
APOLLO 14 ASTRONAUT EDGAR MITCHELL

A truly valuable public service!

Yes, quite. It's the biggest scandal of this administration, so far, probably. It's an average Tuesday under Johnson.

OK this makes me extremely angry. Has everyone forgotten the massive profiteering from thousands of avoidable pandemic deaths?? The unconstitutional suspension of parliament to force through an act of nationalist destruction that cost our children their future??

I've discovered it's possible to use a ticklish 2 year old as an air guitar, not sure of the value of this learning to humanity but there you are.

Be fair, some freeholders just live in their freeholding and line their pockets (or more accurately pay off their mortgages) by working the same as everyone else. It's leasehold landlords you want to direct your ire at really.

Toddler earlier as I tried to explain New Year to him "I don't want to go to 2026, I want to go home" - I sort of sympathise.

Getting to Net Zero is cheaper than letting the planet burn. Twice as cheap in fact.

If we do nothing, climate change will cost us 15% of global GDP. Getting to Net Zero limits those costs to 7%.

I have a 2 yo and a 10 week old. Being actively involved in their parenting makes me too tired to vanquish cobwebs from the ceiling of the spare room, so I call bullshit on this idea

A forlorn landscape of layered rocks in the foreground, with hills fading into the background haze. At upper top right, a small crescent moon, and a bright star.

Open up this picture fully.

Then look at the surface of Mars.

Then look up to the top right.

Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky.

Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos.

That's Earth.

The problem with the BBC being the nation’s finest engine for soft power, is that people have realised that they can easily exert hard, nasty, cruel power on it, and bend it out of shape.

Empathy, curiosity and compassion shouldn’t be problematic qualities that need silencing. Seems they are now.

I'm sure you're more than aware that there are plenty of independent producers often attracting audiences equivalent to the BBC without the editorial pressures hopefully your talents in science and arts communication can find a home somewhere else, where your humanity can continue to flourish.

From the sounds of things there is little point in your audience protesting or arguing for your reinstatement, if I'm wrong please count my voice amongst those calling for your return. Broadcasting needs people like you more than people like you need broadcasting.

Without people like you with real views, feelings and emotions to make it there is little point in organisations like the BBC, and it sickens me that the people in charge don't understand and cherish that every single day.

People like you highlight everything about art and media that cannot be replaced by machines, the fact you are clearly an empathetic and caring human shines through in everything that you do - and makes it what it is.

I've been one of your listeners from (very nearly) the beginning, and you've created probably one of the most accessible and effective pieces of science communication in the history of broadcasting - for this you should be justifiably proud.

Robin, this is truly heartbreaking. It was quite clear that more than being a part of that show, you were that show (or at the very least it's driving force), and to be pushed out for nothing more than daring to highlight injustices when you see them is a travesty.
