Also, apart from outsmarting him, his nemeses often strip him of his dignity. Mxyzptlk, Prankster etc. make him look ridiculous and undermine his authority. That’s a legit weakness!

I suspect part of the equation is that art cartoonists initially learned their craft from commercial comics, so there’s that formative connection. Only a very few commercial creators show any curiosity about learning from art comics.

Yes, as a thumbnail scrolling past it really looked like him!
Only half joking: "I yam what I yam an' 'at's all I yam"
I believe John Allison has been doing this.
Exactly this.
I've had to record videos for promoting comics. I find it quite stressful! I put a lot of work into the ones I do, too (worrying that, because it's not my area, it'll be shit otherwise). So the cost is both stress and way too much time.
A good way to remember Christopher Eccleston’s spelling is that, like his tenure as the Doctor, his surname ends slightly before you might expect it to.
I'm sure you're right, but I also think the paid services are selling your data as well.
I usually start the next thing right away (sometimes the next issue, or sometimes some project I've had bubbling away in the background). I don't like too long a break, I have trouble starting the engine again if it cools down too long.
Who called it "AI theft" and not "six finger discount"?
Yeah! I think that part of the process where it looks like it’s not going to work is maybe the most important part. That’s when your problem-solving brain kicks into high gear, when you’re most likely to come up with something genuinely brand-new and original. Out of sheer necessity!

I have worked in comics professionally for 35 years and I don't know what any of these words mean
My brother introduced me to them back in the late 80s, in New Zealand if that’s relevant.

On Thursday, the new issue of Viz will be on sale at the small pile of radioactive rubble that used to be your corner shop. I'm not sure how much it will cost - maybe a dented tin of corned beef, or you might have to have sex with the newsagent or something.
Might leave my tax returns a day or two
Hope so! I suspect it’s not my crowd but I’ll lean into the Big IP, I’m not proud.
Hello! I don’t usually do it but I thought I’d give it a whirl this year.
Yeah, at this point I have to assume Adobe own some code they refuse to license that nobody else has figured out. Not a single “photoshop killer” I’ve tried can crack that nut.
Oh, I was quite excited for a minute there.
Might I suggest the brown trousers today, sir
Today marks the eighth anniversary of my father’s death. In February I posted a comic about it, masterfully drawn by @hotelfred.bsky.social, which you can read and purchase (on a PWYW basis) below:
