Ohio Anti-Abortion Bill Sponsor Runs a Crisis Pregnancy Center. Few News Stories Mentioned It. Rep. Melanie Miller is behind a bill that advocates say would stigmatize abortion and send more clients to her nonprofit.

Here's my story from December about Ohio's Baby Olivia Act. It passed the House, but two different versions of the bill remain in committee in the Senate. Its House sponsor is a crisis pregnancy center director:

Lawmakers seem to have heard the same rumors I did, because most recently, we've seen versions of the bill that specifically disallow content from organizations that "promote" abortion. I'll be interested to see whether these videos, from Health Care Education and Training, are able to skirt that.

Originally, the "Baby Olivia" model legislation, also from Live Action, required schools to show the Live Action videos specifically. That was pretty widely criticized even in abortion-hostile states, so most versions of the legislation now allow any videos that meets certain criteria.

NEW: Last year, while working on a story about a "Baby Olivia" bill in Ohio, I heard that someone was developing a scientifically accurate alternative to the misleading "Baby Olivia" human development videos produced by the anti-abortion group Live Action.
