ICE’s Smart Glasses Are a Worst-Case Scenario The DHS is reportedly developing its own smart glasses that it plans to couple with biometric databases and facial recognition.

“There are a lot of privacy pitfalls that come along with smart glasses, but the potential for their use as a tool for mass surveillance is easily one of the most harrowing.”

So basically it's becoming less of a story of forcing out fossil exports and more of a story of how to get the most of out of the industry on its way down: how to force them to pay their way, clean up, pay for impacts of fuel use etc

If Australia wants to see Norway-style tax benefits? Last chance.

Companies that show some ethics are great so I applaud that too. I appreciate all transparency and flags and such. But using ai to flag ai is a little 😵‍💫 so I really do my damnest to listen to indie radio , stream bbc1 radio sometimes but I make a big effort to buy what I can from Bandcamp or a cd

Today marks the 15th anniversary to Great PSN Outage of 2011, which started on April 20th and went on to last for over three weeks.

It was a wild time. I was a GameStop third-key then, and it got ugly FAST. Lots of angry customers, more than a few PS3 trades toward X360. Not fun.

Data centers are expensive, unpopular — and could be a tipping point in the midterms Anger over the data center boom has spilled into politics with voters unseating local politicians who support them. It's become an issue hard to ignore in the midterm elections.

It’s such a crazy coincidence how the people in Hollywood advocating for use of AI are the ones who already have enough resources to exploit it for personal financial gain

Self-appointed "Blender Guru" is pushing Ai hard. Funny, he deleted his NFT pushes because those make him look stupid. Yet he doesn't remove the blender tutorial where he casually laments you can't say the F slur anymore. He's the worst. Anyone learning blender can and should do better than the 🍩.

Tennessee lawmakers passed the so-called “Charlie Kirk Act” yesterday (15 April), a sweeping bill that could see students and faculty disciplined, or even expelled, for protesting speakers on campus over anti-LGBTQ+ views.

That's not to say that you shouldn't be careful how you use these glasses. Meta doesn’t have the greatest track record on privacy, and the company has continued to push forward with policies that are questionable at best. Even if you’re not concerned that face recognition will allow Meta to target immigrants or enable stalkers to find their victims, at the very least, people really do not like the idea that you could start recording them at any moment.

Probably the biggest hurdle to wearing Meta glasses is that even doing so seems like a gross violation of the social contract. After all, these are Mark Zuckerberg's “pervert glasses.” When I pop these on my head, I’ve had friends (and my spouse) recoil and say, “I have apps to warn me away from people like you.” The best part, though, is that Oakley and Ray-Ban already make really great sunglasses. Even if the battery runs out or you don't use Meta AI at all, these are stellar at shading your eyes from the sun

Palmer Luckey is selling Game Boys and soon N64s through his new company ModRetro and little of the coverage mentions that he's a lunatic right-wing Trump supporter selling weapons and anti-immigration surveillance through Palantir.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
