Exactly! You were supposed to hold the lighter with one hand, the cig in the other, *also steer the car*, and the penalty for failing at any point was, at best, you dropping the cigarette. The other two options were:

1) Dropping said coils in your crotch
2) Failing at the "steering the car" part

I was just remembering that smoking used to be so ubiquitous that what are now the accessory ports in cars used to be for cigarette lighters, which would heat coils hot enough to light a cigarette and definitely were not burn hazards. Also there were ashtrays that'd slide in and out of the doors.

Thinking about how impressively bad optics the T-Mobile site is. I got myself hooked up to a shiny new 2gig symmetrical fiber connection, went to their site to look something up, and had 0 difference in how long it took to do things because that thing is chock full of the worst design and javascript

I'm just really hoping that swapping over to the new fiber connection (which is a thing I have set up I just need to physically move some stuff which is happening today) will fix that. Either way, Weird Horses will absolutely happen in the near future!

I was "lucky" enough to get the other version of that, where it was just assumed I'd succeed so I was just mostly left alone and all of my value came from being the good kid who's not a problem. I became afraid to show any signs of struggling, trying nothing new and hiding problems.

The specific epithet, "manga" means blue in Malagasy & it's not hard to see why. Only males are blue.

The tiny back wings ("alae") are an example of brachyptery: they're useless for flight, but have other functions.

I'm glad I ended up on the burnout path rather than the shitty manager one but hoo boy do I wish I hadn't been pushed towards either. It's such a known thing at this point that you'd think they'd fix it but the allure of being the parent of a gifted kid or being told you're "smart" is too strong
