Turns out... not as cooked as I thought! The session was the perfect length, the encounters were fun, and the players had a blast. The only hitch was figuring out the battlemap for the BBEG combat encounter, but everything worked out wonderfully. Now I'm considering writing a campaign...

The story was fun to write, and it was a thrill to figure out how to translate it into a single-session game with encounters and statblocks. I mean, I once wrote a full 6k-word story in the span of 30 hours (RAWR), so surely I could make a one-shot in three weeks... right?
How cooked am I? XD

In the span of just a day, I came up with a self-contained plot, NPCs, and encounter concepts for a one-shot of my own design. I... having played for years but never DMed, was inspired to design a full session using the framework of other published one-shots to base the pacing off of.

Our DnD DM is on sabbatical for a month, so in the meantime our group decided to try DMing one-shots on rotation for ourselves. Each week, a different one of us will DM a game for the group. I looked through some published one-shots to try, but then my writer-brain started getting ideas...

Whoa, that looks awesome!
Pteranodon!
Cute!
Wow, beautiful!
I've streamed a couple video games before, and I've considered doing more. They weren't negative experiences for me, though every time I think of trying again I keep thinking that I wouldn't be interesting or talkative enough to make it worth someone's attention.
Awesome! Congrats! :D
It's well earned.
HMMM? 👀
Perhaps you're looking for something fulfilling-but-low-stakes that doesn't require too much concentration. At least, that's why I play a lot of Snowrunner (off-road trucker simulator). A great game to play while listening to podcasts and audiobooks, too! Trucker Simulator might offer the same.
Bunny! ❤️
This looks amazing! Wishlisting now...

Melon, way back in 2003, and her latest iteration, Orchid, last year.

Hope we see more of her in the future! And hope she makes it out of there in one piece....
Yes. This. Very much this. Let's do it.
I like how he's coming along already!
I love these two so much ❤️
Guess who's now got a VR rig?
This rudderbutt right here! Now I have even MORE distractions! XD
Seriously though, I really wanna try my paw at creating my own VRChat avatars and worlds. I've already got ideas for Solkai templates.

'ey, happy birthday!
Much agreed on 1! I'm about a third of the way through myself. I hadn't realized that on point 2, but now that you mention it I'm seeing it now :p But hey, more Mineru is fine by me!
Steadily getting more serious about this idea as concepts come to me in my free time. Besides Solkai, I've got... modular dino-dragons, electro-kitties, living-stone horses, medically-attuned sneks, "hell goats", trickster jackalopes, cyborg shark-rays, and oviparous rabbit/squirrel/quokka hybrids.
Glad to hear she has admirers! I'm all too happy to feature her more :D
Melon the rabbit originally began as a side character for a slice-of-life story, but I loved her personality & design so much that she quickly made her way to the forefront of my mind and became a cross-dimensional cameo character. Orchid in New Atlantis is her most recognized version.

Looking forward to them! You have such fascinating characters and their world!
