So I got hit with a layoff notice on Friday, just due to contract financials. I have a couple months left with the company to wind things down and do handoffs, etc, but I'm officially looking for something new.

Cybersecurity, director-ish level. If anyone has some connections, let me know!

"That creepy guy is here again," my boss hissed.

I looked to the pinball machine in corner. A lanky man in overalls and a soft hat was playing.

"You're making a fortune from the old coins he's using. But I'll have a word."

Later, I told my boss the guy worked as a ferryman. Why'd he get so pale?

So, I take occasional AI training because pretending work I’ve done was done by AI is a winning strategy at work, and what has struck me is that every class begins with a period trying to convince you that AI is useful.

No other classes I take have to argue that they’re not bullshit.

The degradation of society:
1. Celebrating the k!lling of a CEO
2. Cheering on warehouse arsons
3. Making heroes out of people who attempt political violence
You can be outraged at the system and still not glorify violence. These aren't wins. This is a society losing its moral compass.
[Coming from a liberal btw]

I don’t know how people keep forgetting that workers rights were entirely written in blood and the capital class had to be threatened with violence before they agreed to things like 8 hour working days and 2 day weekends.

this is a boring take but if we want this from a Dem President in 2029 we need to deliver the type of huge legislative majority Magyar just achieved and not the razor-thin one that Biden was forced to work with.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

I often think about that scene at the end from the movie Don't Look Up, where the good guys have done everything they can to no avail so they just spend time with loved ones, have a good meal, and hold each other close. Which is a sad scene but it also feels strangely comforting.

The bitter truth of our world is that unless and until enough GOP in House and Senate say to Trump, as GOP said to Nixon, ‘Enough, you’re done,’ he cannot be checked right now.

His permitted corruption, violence, desecration is their crime.

I was thinking about something similar this week at work a lot working with someone on my team.

Wish I knew of a good way to get the idea to get “hands dirty, making mistakes no one asked you to make and learning things no one asked you to learn” is a good thing.

"Going easy on yourself is a muscle you have to develop." Adam Savage often has a lot of... Profoundly frustrating true things to say. I may not agree with everything all the time, but I feel like I get a lot about living life from his Tested mailbag discussions.

Four portraits of Minnesota residents inside and outside their homes. From left to right: A woman in a hijab, an older woman wearing a red whistle, an elderly couple in winter coats standing in the snow, and a woman wearing a buttoned-up cardigan and dark blue jeans.

The news has moved on, but ICE is still in Minneapolis.

My neighbors are still patrolling streets, driving strangers to work, and providing aid. As a photojournalist at @propublica.org, I wanted to know: What do they look like in their daily lives?

So I picked up my camera 👇
