From September 2026, Google is pushing a forced, irreversible update that removes your ability to install software they haven't approved on a device you own, with no consent and no way to reverse it.

#AI power & why #open institutions matter
Software & AI are never neutral; they quietly lock in existing systems of control & power. We need to keep AI accountable & share its benefits more fairly.
Thanks to @werd.io for inspiring me to think about this!

I'm currently in pre-publishing stage for my novel with UQP. Lobbyists are pressuring UQP & UQ to cancel my contract. Historical-based fiction re Stolen Generations & other forms of genocide that occurred on this continent. And Blak joy, survival. These lobbyists can't bury truth, can't silence us
The NDIS Act needs to be re written, just as Howard’s privatisation of Aged Care, Employment and training Acts need to be rewritten. Then there is the Gonski funding model for education. All an ongoing tragedy for Aust people whilst few corporations profit from public money in $AUD billions.
University of Queensland directs UQP to cancel & pulp an Aboriginal writer's environmental-focused book for children. Jazz Money has done nothing wrong and doesn't deserve to be treated this way. Her book is important for young readers. Shameful
HOW TO SAVE ACADEMIA
make it free for studentes
higher educacioun for those who choose to access it ys a foundacioun of a free societye
All private school funding should be moved to NDIS. It’s time for the privileged class to make their own way in the world.
They were warned that privatisation of the NDIS would possibly lead to fraud from the wild west of providers followed by an outcry of funding sustainability from the opposition that inevitably leads to cuts for the most vulnerable, meanwhile profits are still being made.
Rinse and repeat.

Bridget McKenzie, who resigned in disgrace over Sports Rorts, tells Sunrise that the NDIS will only survive if we “stop the rorting.”
Extraordinary hypocrisy. From the same party that left the NDIS without fraud protections for a decade. #auspol
Shell Oil suggested they were putting $1m into the Aus Energy Producers advert campaign because its adverts need to meet "Advertising Standards" "unlike those from The Australia Institute"
So @jack-thrower.bsky.social & I decided to fact check their advert

What the actual fuck?
First Nations Peoples resources, many who live in third world poverty and are the most jailed people in the world.
'Australians deserve to get the benefits of our natural resources'
Konrad Benjamin nails the root of the problem: to stop large industries from ripping us all off, politicians need to stop “going to work in the industries that they literally wrote the rules for”🔥
Rules that as Dr Denniss points out, see gas co’s “pay more in PR than PRRT”💥
This was a brief pop-in but I did mention @ember-energy.org's new report showing demand for gas is seeing weakening growth particularly in Asia - Australia's main customer
We want a managed transition, not a chaotic painful one. Tax helps achieve that!

The IMF is worried the energy crisis could lead to a 'wage-price spiral'
But no mention of a profit-price spiral... 🤔
Even though last time war made gas prices spike, the IMF itself said HALF of Europe's inflation was due to PROFITS

So what if multi-nationals whine about a windfall profits tax!
The gas is still going to be there, it will sell if the demand is there and that demand is only going to increase on a finite commodity
This is just the greedy fear mongers wanting to continue their free run

what a cluster, in other words
Meta just paid the lowest effective federal tax rate in its history.
Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes.
But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year.
Trickle down hoax.
Every time I read a piece about somebody with an “ai-assisted editing process” I feel like I’m watching someone trying to intellectualize a deliberate choice not to think or concentrate
Dr Richard Denniss dismantles the gas industry’s favorite threat.
If taxes kill investment, why is the gas industry rushing to Norway to pay 78%? 🙄
“They are playing us for fools.” 🔥
Nationals’ Susan McDonald has no rebuttal & scrambles to change the subject. #auspol
Headline from the AFR "Time to end welfare for the wealthy, says big business"
You mean the superannuation tax breaks? No?
You mean the CGT discount? No?
You mean the fossil fuel subsidies? No?
You mean the free gas for multinationals? No?
You mean the failure of the PRRT? No?
You mean the tax dodging trusts? No?
You mean the lack of a wealth tax? No?
No you mean the NDIS FFS
what I can not stand about these tertiary institutions attacking their own students is the complete absence of evidence that pro-Palestine students are a physical threat to anything or anyone. The “threat” is to status quo white supremacy and war machine money.

The whole of Palantir’s manifesto is dystopian, but this is really chilling; “The question is not whether AI weapons will be built; it is who will build them and for what purpose.” They have a plan to build AI weapons to kill what we hold precious, we need a plan to stop them.
Palantir's CEO published a manifesto arguing Western tech firms have a "moral debt" to US military dominance, that AI weapons are inevitable, and that "some cultures are dysfunctional." This isn't just a regularly evil tech or defence contractor, it’s a fascist political project.
A short 3min video by Al Jazeera journalist Zeina Khodr reports on Israel's crimes in southern Lebanon. Shameful that our AUS Govt does not condemn this. Appalling that our Australian mainstream news media refuses to report it in detail. #auspol #IsraeliTerrorism #LebanonUnderAttack

"The only reform equal to the scale of the crisis is to urgently end handouts for property investors [and] provide high quality, beautiful public homes."

My favourite line so far from the Gas Tax committee is Susan McDonald "I probably know more than 20,000 people who work directly and fairly closely directly with the gas industry."
C'mon Susan, the Santos corporate box for the Wallabies vs Argentina Rugby Test Match wasn't that big
