This years theme is specifically about both black fashion AND "dandyism" and there's been a ton of gender play going on. Again, with what's happening right now? That's art being radical.
This years Gala theme is historically VERY relevant and celebrating black history and fashion seem incredibly important to me. If it's not your bag, I get it! Art is like that. But the Met Gala seems to get a lot of heat while other much more egregious wealth displays don't.
I think it's important to remember that The Met Gala is about funding art conservation. Fashion is art & history and what the Met does is make sure a lot of very delicate pieces that tell us how we lived & expressed ourselves through history. The Gala funds the Costume Institute specifically.
