We mistake #coworking for a real estate play when it is actually a subtle engine of human capital.
Writing in @regionalstudies.bsky.social, @zihanwang.bsky.social, Fai, @prt1969.bsky.social, Barzotto & Ehrhardt argue that these spaces provide the vital scaffolding for skills.

If we have a big fiscal hole to fill economically sensible actions - increase income tax, delay tax rises to 28-29, cut spending - look politically horrible. Politically easier - tax banks, wealth, savings etc - economically horrible.

Neat framing, but incorrect. Moving the focus of taxation from income to wealth (increasing fuel duties/ introducing road pricing) would be politically difficult but economically sensible. Removing cliff edges would be politically easy and economically sensible. Details matter but principles clear.

The unravelling of Reform's xenophobic and half-baked proposals on ILR would be ideal time for Govt to say its own proposals, which I described as "not just unfair and vindictive, but economically irrational" will *not* apply retrospectively to migrants already here.

A perfect illustration of the trade offs involved in government. Do ministers want to keep down drug prices to help the NHS budget or to raise them to attract and retain Big Pharma which plays a central role in the industrial strategy? on.ft.com/4gkaC8P

Initially the benefits of the IT revolution were reasonably widely dispersed, but as the 2000s progressed, competition decreased and they began to be increasingly captured by a handful of huge tech firms, exactly as economic theory would predict. And those tech firms were all based in the US

British decline in one story.

Any state which finds itself incapable of managing a project as basic as rolling out a 20th century tech between its biggest cities needs to ask itself some profound questions about what hope it has of managing the technologies of the 21st.
